The mind behind Captain Blasto previews his latest work, The Mercury Men.
Pennsylvania resident Christopher Preksta—the creator of the hit superhero video web series, Captain Blasto—has revealed a sneak peak of his upcoming show, The Mercury Men. This time Preksta takes on the thrilling world of science-fiction, celebrating a modern return of classic cliffhanger serials.

“The web video format seemed the perfect opportunity to reintroduce the old serial style of storytelling,” Preksta explains. “Not as an homage with cheesy dialogue, corny characters, and bad special effects, but as a modern story with the great suspense, danger, and mystery the serials were originally known for. With the short form of digital media, movies are simply coming back to their roots.”
The Mercury Men will follow a run-of-the-mill government office employee named Edward Borman (actor Mark Tierno, Captain Blasto, George Romero’s Day of the Dead, Creepshow, the upcoming Viggo Mortensen film The Road) whose life takes a turn for the worse when the lethal Mercury Men trap him and seize the office building for their own dark means. With the help of Jack Yaeger (Curt Wootton, Captain Blasto, The Hidden Blade), an aerospace engineer from an enigmatic organization called the “League,” Edward must put an end to the Mercury Men’s plans and their doomsday device, the Gravity Engine.
Preksta seems to be stepping up his game since Blasto. The Mercury Men showcases both Pittsburgh and Los Angeles cast and crew, and features a main female character played by Amy Staggs (Quentin Tarantino’s Death Proof, Friday Night Lights). Adapted from a concept short of the same name—which won several awards at both the Brainwash Movie and Action on Film Festivals—the first season will house ten episodes, each five to seven minutes in length. The show’s website, mercuryseries.com, will offer viewers extra content alongside new episodes and give them the opportunity to discuss the series with other fans on The Mercury-Atlas blog and forum.
The Mercury Men premieres this fall.

I hadn’t heard of Capt Blasto before. The MM trailer shows promise. It’s got a nice quality to the filming and the cast seems like they can actually act.
