(GEN Review) Resident Evil: Degeneration

Resident Evil: Degeneration shares more in common with Final Fantasy VII Advent Children than just being feature-length, CG films based on popular videogames; they are both rather disappointing, canonical additions that could have been so much more. With Hollywood and German filmmakers consistently running game adaptations into the ground, it was up to the originators of these franchises to show the world how it’s done.

(GEN Review) Mortal Kombat Vs. DC Universe

MKVDCU is a perfect example of why Midway is on the endangered publishers list. It takes a vaguely intriguing concept and executes it with such mediocrity that even the team behind the upcoming Chun-Li film would be ashamed. Then, to make matters worse, Midway attempts to take their notoriously M-rated series and water it down for a broader, more family-friendly audience. The gimmick of violence was all Mortal Kombat ever had going for it, and now the fatalities have been reduced to little more than Tom and Jerry drollery.

(GEN Review) Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts

With Killer Instinct and Goldeneye in legal limbo and Donkey Kong owned by Nintendo, Rare doesn’t have a lot of popular pre-existing franchises to fall back on for the 360. Banjo-Kazooie: Nuts & Bolts is the struggling developer’s latest attempt to prove Peter Moore wrong and simultaneously fill a much-needed casual void in Microsoft’s game library.

Super-cute nerd baby will lead to apocalypse

When the aliens finally descend upon Earth and ask Haley Joel Osment why we were all too dumb to cure cancer and solve word hunger, this will be the reason.

(GEN Review) Mirror’s Edge

I used to be excited whenever a free game showed up in the mail. That all changed when EA started assaulting me with their line of For Dummies crapware. At this point, getting a package from UPS is like playing Russian roulette with a fully-loaded Lancer…by myself. So, it was with great relief that I found Mirror’s Edge on my porch earlier this week, a game I have been eagerly awaiting since first playing it earlier this year. Read the full story

Versus Mode: Pure Vs. Baja

Two extreme off-road sports games released within a week of each other? It’s like Dante’s Peak versus Volcano all over again! In order to help our readers figure out which game is Armageddon and which game is Deep Impact, GEN proudly presents the first installment of Versus Mode, which is basically just my unadulterated opinion (and the inevitable off-topic rambling about killing a major Hollywood star). Luckily for you, my opinion is always right.

The Music of Video Games: Because You Should Be Working

If you’re like me, you probably use pretty much anything and everything as a distraction to keep from doing important things like working, eating, and working. This can range from looking up a single piece of trivia on IMDB (and eventually awakening several hours later in an alleyway in Mexico with no recollection of how you got there but the sudden confidence that you can beat all your friends at Scene-It), to making Becky and Meagan repeatedly fight each other to the death in Soulcalibur IV. Well now you can add yet another distraction to the reasons why neither of us is a successful millionaire: The Music of Video Games.
