Bully: Scholarship Edition review

For the past week I am have been playing Bully: Scholarship Edition on my 360 like a mad-woman. Even though this is my second run through of this game (I played through the PS2 version when it first came out) I am completely addicted and am totally in love with it.

This re-release has 8 new missions, 4 new classes, new characters, 2 player mini games and new rewards and achievements. The new missions are some of my favorites, an example is destroying a Santa House, complete with enraged little elves who are trying to stop you while you tear down Santa’s Workshop. The new classes include Math, Biology, Music, and Geography. Both Biology and Geography are extremely hard; I haven’t had to use the internet to cheat in class since my own school days. Ah, those were the days. I didn’t know I knew so little about Geography until I played this game, now I know where Tajikistan is. Who said games only teach violence?! Completing the classes also unlock very helpful things in the game, like the locations of collectible rubber bands and G & G Cards show up on the map. The achievements are fun and silly as well, my favorite was the “Over the Rainbow” achievement where you have to kiss 20 guys, it’s all in fun so don’t get offended.

Bully: the Scholarship Edition is more fun than original because of the extra content and I completely recommend this game to anyone who enjoyed the original, it is worth every cent to pick up this game again. Also, anyone who didn’t play the original, I 100% recommend this game, it’s an open world environment where you run around and complete missions at your own pace. If you want to just earn a few extra bucks by running errands for people, or doing odd jobs like mowing the lawn or delivering papers, then more power to ya. Or you can concentrate on just completing all of your classes before venturing off and starting missions…the pace of the game and how you play it is up to you. Also you can “play dress up” with Jimmy (your character) and customize his look the way you want, there are 4 clothing stores that all carry different types of clothing, there are 3 different salons so you can style and color your hair to your liking and 1 tattoo parlor. All of these stores open as you progress through the story, so you might just have to wear your school uniform or some of the “prep” clothing to start out with.

There is also a local carnival you can visit where you can ride rides, go through the freakshow, race go-karts and even play the carnival games and win prize tickets redeemable at the prize tent for silly clothing or better prizes like a scooter for easy transportation around the town of Bullworth. Really, the possibilities are quite endless and you will never be left with nothing to do.

I’m a big of a Sony-hater (plus I don’t have enough $ to buy more than one console per generation… at least until I see a Wii for sale on a store shelf!), so I was really happy to see this come out for my beloved 360. I’m really glad to hear that the improvements make the game that much better! I wasn’t sure if they would half-ass it, so-to-speak.

I’ll be checking this out in the next week or two myself!
