New Line Cinema announced back in March ‘07 that it had bought the rights to create a Gears of War film that was then scheduled for a release in 2009. It was also announced that Cliff Bleszinski, lead designer of GoW, will be taking on the role of executive producer and will consult on its development for Epic Games. Currently, there hasn’t been an official casting announcement. So, Chris and I compiled this list with surgeon-like precision. By “surgeon-like precision” I really mean there was a lot of spitting and your momma’s being thrown around.

wow that is a pretty awesome cast. However I think ermey may be too old for that part.

Okay.. As I was scrolling down, I went from “wow.. awesome!” to “ehhh…”
So rather than complain, I thought I’d offer some casting substituions (if that’s allowed?)
I got to Augustus Cole and was like.. “Who the hell is Lester Speight?” SO.. I looked it up. Turns out the guy actually does the voice for Augustus Cole in the game, which was cool. (I’m wondering if you knew that also, or if it just happened to be a coincidence that you picked him?) My suggestion? How about Roger R. Cross, the guy who played ‘Curtis’ on 24. It looks just like him, and he has that militray vibe down pretty damn well…
And the other one that just bugs me… Damon Baird. I mean.. Ryan Reynolds? I don’t mean to knock him, because he has beefed up a tinge, but even Howie Long kind of looks more like the guy. Scruff him up and let him get dirty, and you’re good to go.
Anya Stroud reminds me of someone else for somer eason, but I can’t place her.. perhaps I’ll think of it later?
Ah well.. either way, cool idea.

Most of these are spot on! However, no matter who you cast, they are all going to look small compared to the real guys. You just can’t find them that big…LOL

Edge0fSanity: Yeah, I knew that Speight is the voice for Cole. So, he was deliberately picked. He definitely has to do the part. “That’s a long distance call, DOUG!”
By the way, casting subsitutions are definitely allowed! I merely submitted these on pure opinion. I want to hear what other ideas you guys have.

I really like this casting, having Jason Scott Lee as Kim is spot on. It’s like they modelled Kim around him. I’m not sure about Dominic Purcell as Fenix, but that’s mainly down to neck size. Like Virtual Girl said; you just can’t find them that big.
I’d like to see Ron Perlman as Fenix, but it’s getting to the stage were Ron will be playing just about every roll in a sci-fi / action movie related to games.
As for Ryan Reynolds as Baird, .. I just can’t picture Ryan being that much of an asshole. Kotaku’s idea of having Val Kilmer would be an option.. Val knows how to play assholes well.
