Street Fighter: The Legend of Chun-Li, which is currently sorting out its casting, is slated to be released in 2009. Usually, movies of this nature come with a lot of debate as to who should play what part. But, movie execs adore the notion of casting the most irrelevant people, as witnessed in Street Fighter: The Movie. Besides, Gomez is a lover not a fighter. Currently, the movie has a lineup that includes Kristen Kreuk (Chun-Li), Rick Yune (Gen), Michael Clarke Duncan (Balrog) and Chris Klein (Nash). A friend, Chris, and I sat down and compiled this list of who we would like to see on-screen because the last thing we want to see is Leslie Nielsen playing the role of E. Honda.

I dont know about Statham as Guile and I think the Rock would make a great Sagat. Other than that the list looks pretty good. And god I hope they really aren’t having Kristin Kreuk play Chun Li. She looks retarded every time I see her do Karate on smallville

I’m not much of a Kristin Kreuk fan. Sure, she’s pretty and all. But, she’s useless.
February 27th, 2008 at 6:50 am
Useless? What do you mean by that? She is pretty and can act. At least a lot better than most people in “the bizz.”
Not sure how good the movie can possibly be, but let’s hope for the best?

I think they’re gonna have to Asian-up Kristen a bit, but she’s better than the first rumored pick for Chun-Li, which was Jessica Biel. So, just be thankful she turned it down, or whatever happened with that.

I actually like the idea of having Jason Statham as Guile! And that’s hard for me to admit, considering how much I LOVED (yes, I’m not ashamed to admit it) the original Street Fighter movie with Van Damme as Guile.
“We are going to kick that son of a b***h Bison’s a** so hard that the next Bison wannabe is gonna feel it!” - pure, cheesy perfection, in Van Damme’s French (or whatever) accent!

Stexe: “useless” was just an exaggeration for my opinion of her. I just don’t want to see her as Chun-Li, das all.
I’m just mostly hoping this movie is a helluva better than the last.

Kiera Knightly as Cammy?? No way! I would at LEAST think that someone more curvy should get this part. This is more of a Scarlett Johanson part than a Kiera Knightly part.
February 27th, 2008 at 12:43 pm
I agree, Cammy needs to be played by someone really fit. Kiera is a great actress, but she’s too frail looking! LOL. Can’t say I’d recast Kylie Mynogue, although she was really cute in the movie.
Scarlett Johanson might be good, or maybe Sienna Miller.
I, too, hope that Kristen Kruek isn’t Chun Li. Whenever it comes to the title character, they always seem to pick someone who’s more “it” and famous that who actually fits the bill. I would love to see Kelly Hu take the role.

Street Fighter should never be made into a live action movie; it will always end up as a cartoony cheese-fest. And that’s fine, if that’s what it sets out to do, but it won’t, it’ll try taking itself seriously.
The only way to do a good version of this movie/story would be to fill it with talented martial artists, not well known actors, keep the dialog to minimum and make it gritty as hell.
That being said, I still believe movies of this franchise should be left as animated features; the game’s cartoon styled graphics will not translate well onto film. But I guess some people love straight-to-DVD movies like this.

I think Jinxie should play Chun Li and I should play Cammy. :p. I honestly hate seeing famous people in rolls like this. I would rather fresh faces play the characters so it doesn’t take away from the experience.
I mean, sure Angie made a great Lara but it was ANGIE as Lara. Not really Lara.
February 27th, 2008 at 1:50 pm
Keira could do it. Just have the chick work out… A LOT.
February 27th, 2008 at 1:52 pm
and get a butt/boob job? She’s a great actress but does not have the curves for this part. Cammy is uber curvy and I think that is one of the things that is important about that part.
February 27th, 2008 at 1:54 pm
Yeah, she’s lacking in the butt/boob area. But that’s always fixable. I agree on the Scarlett Johansson thing too, though. Don’t get me wrong. But I’d be happy seeing either one of those two on there. I also thought of Sienna Miller.
February 27th, 2008 at 2:02 pm
Cammy’s curvey? Since when? She’s just a skinny white girl, that image up above is only an illustration, it’s not from the game. In the game she’s quite flat chested.. Actually Kylie Manogue wasn’t too far off when she was cast in the original shitfest.
February 27th, 2008 at 2:08 pm
While she’s obviously not QUITE as curvy as that one picture … in the game she is def. not a skinny little thing. She’s muscular… almost a bit butch.

February 27th, 2008 at 2:14 pm
Yeah, she has the build close to that of a male gymnast or a steroid addict, but my point was that she’s not that curvy. Keira could play the roll just fine.. after a couple months of booth camp. Look what they did to Linda Hamilton for Terminator 2. Who would have thought she could rip a phonebook in half.. while holding an uzi!
February 27th, 2008 at 2:47 pm
Also, Carrot Top can be Blanka’s stunt double. Just paint him green and straighten his hair. DONE!
February 27th, 2008 at 6:09 pm
Duh, Clare, Chun-Li should be played by my girlfriend, Zhang Ziyi!
And obviously, Eddie Murphy can play everyone else.
February 27th, 2008 at 6:42 pm
He could, couldn’t he. Good point.
February 27th, 2008 at 7:15 pm
Or Mike Myers.
February 27th, 2008 at 7:20 pm
Clare- All good matches, except you missed one very obvious one: Me as E. Honda!!
No wait.. I mean Guile. hehe
Keira Knightley as Cammy? Hmm… Keira is cute, but is about as flat as.. well.. you know what I mean. :-p
February 27th, 2008 at 9:17 pm
22nd!!
February 27th, 2008 at 9:25 pm
You cast is missing one of the most famous characters.. Where’s Ken?! Who’s gonna play Ken?
February 27th, 2008 at 9:42 pm
You’re right! I forgot to put the picture up. *Fixed
February 28th, 2008 at 2:26 am
too bad this isnt the 80s that Zabka kid (Johnny) from the Karate Kid would have been a perfect Ken……Da na na na na Your the best around…….
February 28th, 2008 at 5:55 am
Save Jinxie for the Soul Cal movie where she can play Talim.
Ak- hmm, Sophitia maybe?
I did LOL at the Koji Kitao reference.
As for the artstyle- generally SF goes for a very overmuscular style- the opposite of say, KOF (the other major 2d fighting series- though it’s not that popular in the US). KOF goes for a more Japanese-style aesthetic, though it’s art is in a different, less traditionally anime-esque style. (I hate to call it non anime-influenced, since it is, just not as obviously)
February 28th, 2008 at 10:00 am
Hahaha, me in a fighting game movie? I’d be pummeled! I’m tinier than Keira!
Anyway, anyone who’s gonna be in SF movie needs to be fit or at least look it. Even if Keira works out, she’s naturally too thin to gain muscle to look right for the role. Same goes for Kristen Kruek - I just can’t imagine her physically matching the part of Chun Li.
February 28th, 2008 at 12:02 pm
You’re Ken made me angry! Josh Duhamel? You serious? Don’t get me wrong, I don’t dislike the guy, but Mr. Dumbel is no Ken.
February 28th, 2008 at 12:03 pm
YOUR KEN!
February 28th, 2008 at 1:10 pm
You’re a towel
February 28th, 2008 at 1:46 pm
But seriously, there’s a lot of other people that are also fitting for Ken. Can’t say that I was a big fan of Duhamel in Transformers but he’s got that look.
February 28th, 2008 at 3:04 pm
towels dont dry people, people dry people
February 28th, 2008 at 6:44 pm
Josh Duhamel with blonde hair could totally be a good Ken. Who else could possibly play that character? Maybe mis-cast the hell outta him and have Paul Walker “dude, bro” his way through the whole film.
February 29th, 2008 at 10:20 pm
Is Paul Walker still alive?
March 1st, 2008 at 8:43 pm
Their actually making a new Fast and Furious movie with him and Vin Diesel both in it. No lie, Google it. All thats missing now is the ultimate buddy team-up of Paul Walker and Keanu Reeves in “Whoa, Dude, Bro! Part 2″
March 2nd, 2008 at 2:04 pm
Oh god. Please say it isn’t so.
March 2nd, 2008 at 2:10 pm
Seeing as you’re doing Super Street Fighter characters with Cammy and Akuma; you should update your cast with who will play the roles of “Fei Long, Dee Jay and T.Hawk”.
March 4th, 2008 at 1:22 am
Hmm, Jason Scott Lee as Fei Long, Desmond Hansou for Dee Jay, and The Rock as T. Hawk. He’s the only one I can think of that could possibly pull off looking like a huge Native American.
Also, did you hear Heath Ledger got cast in the lead role of the remake of Weekend at Bernies?
March 4th, 2008 at 4:50 am
Anyone checked out Ana Parsons from Street Fighter: The Later Years?

Now THAT’S a Chun-Li
