Collectible Wizard!

During the 3 day weekend, I didn’t get to be merry by the pool… instead, I got all giddy over a new find; a charming store tucked away on Magnolia Blvd. called Collectible Wizard!

Emma, Blkcat, and MJ

Beau and I were on our way to the market when a huge wizard hat sitting on top of a tiny car caught his eye.  Upon looking slightly up, he spied the cute little shop and decided he wanted to take a peek!  I wasn’t up to it at first because I know my spending habits in stores like these… I like to think I have no limit when it comes to $$ (cha-ching)!!!  When we arrived at the door, a fluffy white dog (a.k.a. the security guard) greeted us with a grunt and plopped down on the walkway.  I guess he thought that because he’s so cute, he could do whatever he wanted!  :D

My eye’s danced with delight just like they did when I first walked into Whimsic Alley!  It was hard to focus on anything because there was so much to look at; even for such a small space, owners Gregg and Jackie, were able to create an orderly atmosphere!

Gregg was so happy to share my excitement and like a 5 year old (his words, not mine), pointed out all his favorite toys!  Some of the most impressive pieces of cartoon art decorate his walls, and believe it or not, some are rare pieces that are priced unbelievably well (*ahem* affordable for the likes of us starving gamers)!!

I bought myself an encyclopedia to Japanimation and a Harry Potter sorting hat (and it talks)!!!  WOOHOO!  You guys HAVE to check it out!

Or visit their SITE!

They opened their doors last year and are still relatively new!  However, Gregg is one of us!  He has a lot of knowledge for a lot of different mediums!  If you stop by the store, tell him I said HELLOOOOOO!!!  Oh, and don’t forget to give the security guard a little bit of attention!

BTW, sorry about the pictures being so blurry… Beau took ‘em with his iphone… it’s his fault *haha*!

Wow, that shop is so protected. LOL Must be hard being a dog.

Good find though… I am still looking for a new permanent collectible shop since the one I went to for 13 years closed down earlier this year…

But Burbank is kind of far for me. I am a south bay, near OC res. so I need something this way. Still a cool find though.

And I can’t believe you don’t carry a digi cam with you at all times. Mine is always by my side.

Cool find! I had my first experience with one of these stores in NYC a few years ago. Unless they’re extremely hidden, they don’t exist in Cincinnati.

Anyways, I wanted to buy all of the Yoshi’s & Princess Peach’s in NYC, which would have been about $600. My boyfriend wouldn’t let me :(

Ah comic shops are such great places sometimes. When they’re actually passionate about comics and comic related stuff there’s so much neat stuff you can find at them. (unlike some of the comicbook places run by part time supervillains)

This place looks awesome, if I ever hit up Cali I’ll definetely try to visit

Too bad I’m like Traycee and have to stay out of them so I don’t go broke :P I see like a grand worth of stuff there I’d buy in just the photos

Ricky: that doggie worked hard at being cute… it was so exhausting (as you can see), that he had to fall asleep in front of the fan!

Mandy: DUDE! $600 is a small price to pay for Yoshi’s & Princess Peach’s! I’d do it *hehe*!!!

FredOzzel: OMG! I know! We didn’t even take pics of all the goodies we wanted… it’s amazing how much cool stuff is in that store! I want!!! :D

there is another great place “Blast From the Past” just a few blocks away, on Hollywood Way near Magnolia. Plus you have The Last Grenadier a few blocks down Hollywood Way for all your gaming needs. Its like a geek paradise.

Burbank is good like that, when you add in House of Secrets for your comic needs you never have to leave.

OH OH.. and for Anime/Manga there is a place in the Westside Pavillion in Culver City called Power Anime! REALLY fun stuff.

  12. Traycee Traycee Says:

Oooh, thanks timebeing… and Aktrez, I will definitely be going there.

I go to Little Tokyo and Chinatown for a lot of my anime/martial arts needs… Jungle has 2 stores, one for toys and movies, and one for anime and manga… ‘cept they don’t have hentai! HAHAHAHA!!

Well they’re not comic shops but there are some California based RPG shops that a friend of mine let me know about that may be worth looking into apparently. Personally I know nothing of either but he’s mentioned The War House quite a few times so I thought I’d ask him to share the info - here you go:

The War House (awesome miniature selection, huge selection of books and large store, very knowledgeable staff)
