Comic Book Review: Cyblade #3

Mutiny! … which may be spoiled by a scary-looking robotic dude. Yup, they’re boned.

Cyblade #3
Writer: Joshua Hale Fialkov
Artist: Lee Ferguson
Covers: Rick Mays (A, below) and Stjepan Sejic (B)

Summary: Dominique’s hard decision leads to her salvation, but with Cyberdata on her heels, can the Resistance rally themselves fast enough to stand up against an army of SHOC Troops? With a special appearance by another member of CYBERFORCE!

Review: Last time things started to heat up after a slow first issue, and now in Cyblade #3 (”Wings of Desire”), the story kicks up another notch. Our heroes prepare to make a preemptive move, but Cyberdata has another ace up its sleeve … imagine if Wolverine had five claws on each hand and mash that image together with Colossus and Mr. Sinister, or something. Err, my point being that he’s one nasty ace.

I love the cover to this issue: It’s full of implications and potential plot developments but has absolutely nothing to do with this issue, other than Rashell and Dominique being reunited. It’s damn cool, though.

Rashell’s new ally—ex-Cyberdata employee McNally—helps to separate Dominique from her overzealous new handler, Jocelyn. Dominique reacts with hostility at first until she realizes that Rashell is working with McNally. Refusing to allow Cyberdata to victimize others like her, she agrees to his plan to return to Cyberdata in the hopes of infiltrating their system and liberating the individuals whose talents they have exploited.

However, Cyberdata has given up on the idea of retrieval. Instead, cleaning up the mess called rogue Agent Cyblade has become their top priority. The next issue—and the final part of Cyblade—promises to be a showdown between Robert Bearclaw (codenamed Ripclaw) and Dominique that could determine the fate of Cyberdata forever.

Not a lot happens in Part Three, but the art is particularly fun and much is explained about the story. I’ve been enjoying the comic, so I’m excited for its hopefully action-packed conclusion. Now, if only Dollhouse had this kind of effect on me …

I like the artwork this issue a TON more than the last few. And it is exciting that Rashell and Dominique are reunited.

    Also, I quite liked Dollhouse…
