Summary: DARK REIGN Big, bold choices! That’s what Norman Osborn’s H.A.M.M.E.R. and Avengers have been all about! And with every bold choice comes more and more risk! And with risk comes pressure! And with pressure…come the voices. How long can Norman Osborn hold it together? And what is he willing to do to make it look like everything is just fine!
Review: Fans get confirmation that Norman Osborn really is a bastard dressed in armor in Dark Avengers #6. Los Angeles has been attacked by giant sea creatures. Norman calls for a meeting of The Cabal which is the group comprised of Emma Frost, Namor, Loki, the Hood and Dr. Doom. Osborn calls Namor out as the leader behind the Atlantean uprising despite the fact that Atlantis is pretty much decimated. Namor’s response is nothing short of brilliant and besides the sexy pointy ears, he reminds me so much of DC’s Black Adam.
Quote of the week goes to Namor: “Listen very carefully, human… the fact that I even allow you to speak directly to me is a gift I bestow upon you. You do not order me. You beg for my appreciation and then wait to see if I choose to bestow it upon you.“
It’s rather amusing how uninterested the “team members” are in this catastrophe. The best reaction being the silent smile from Loki.
Meanwhile, Noh-Varr is missing and the rest of the Dark Avengers look to the bedheaded Moonstone for answers. Norman lashes out at her near the end of the issue in what one can only assume was some very last second editing. He yells, “SHUT!” not “Shut up!” or “Shut it!” or “Shut your mouth!” I thought it seemed rather strange to just yell “Shut!” when someone else pointed out to me that the second letter was most likely replaced changing an insult for Moonstone’s playgirl lifestyle into a command.
By now, Osborn hasn’t gotten any rest and Victoria has noticed. She was hired to be his advisor and she urges him stay behind and to send the Sentry on the mission of capturing the Atlantean “terrorist” and kill all the others. It’s bold and horrifying how easily Norman’s goals are accomplished by the Void personality within the Sentry. Five wordless pages are stunningly illustrated showing this assault under the water. The fate of the sea dwellers is tragic.

The issue wraps up with an incredibly important reveal. Norman’s internal voices are shown changing from white word balloons to green. Queue Denny Elfman soundtrack.

Black Adam actually does have pointy ears. Depending on who’s drawing him anyway.

That’s what I meant… that they have more in common than sexy pointy ears. This is why I need an editor full time!

The more I read about Dark Avengers, the more I think I want to pick it up in trades. or hardbacks. I definitely want to pick up the Dark Avengers/X-Men crossover when that gets collected. Cloak and Dagger? Mimic? Namor? All on the same team?? I am so there.
