Using a key to open your brain and take out bad memories is not a good idea. I repeat, NOT a good idea.

Review: Imagine how tempting it would be to know that the power to remove all of your bad memories - fear, sadness, insecurities - from your own brain was just the turn of a key away. Well that’s exactly where the Locke siblings find themselves in this penultimate issue of “Locke & Key: Head Games” and it’s a very dangerous and exposed position to be in.

Kinsey Locke said she wished she could forget how to cry and last issue she did just that by removing the sad, whimpering part of herself from her head. She also took out a vicious monster that represented her fear and we all know a person without fear is a very dangerous person indeed. What she’s started could mean disaster for all the inhabitants of Keyhouse. Meanwhile poor Uncle Duncan is recuperating after being bashed over the head by a homophobic bar patron. I’m still not sure who’s worse off but he might be their only chance at survival if he can warn them in time.

There’s not a whole lot of action this time around but everything that takes place is vitally important in the lead-up to the big finale. “Locke & Key” constantly has me on the edge of my seat wondering what will happen next and that’s a delightful frame of mind to be in when so many stories these days are predictable. Joe Hill has created a simple yet extremely complex villain in Zack, slowly and methodically carrying out plans that will get him ever closer to the Black Door. But just what that is and what other keys are yet to be discovered is a mystery I’m dying to find out.

Locke & Key: Head Games #5 is in stores tomorrow.

Removing things from your memory is definitely tempting, but even more so, I don’t think I could show any restraint if I could simply dump books into my brain and have all the knowledge. That would be excellent. I am finding it a little aggravating not knowing what Zack’s ultimate goal is.

    Little people in jars FTW!

I’m seriously bananas about this series.
