Black Teeth continues the startling “Crooked” storyline and sets up the game-changing events that will alter The Darkness forever.
The count down continues to the 75th issue overall of The Darkness!
Review: Another issue of The Darkness! Just another comic I eagerly await the release of each month. While The Darkness #10 (aka Legacy #74) might not be an essential issue, it’s still an enjoyable read. On the other hand, the reading does progress a bit sluggishly. But hey—when you’re Jackie Estacado and you’re submerged in a deep vat of turkey poo, you might be a little torpid, too.
Last time Jackie was recruited by the Sovereign, who informed him that while his body continues to live on earth, his soul dwells in the fiery pits of hell. Yikes. The Sovereign offered to retreive his soul … for a price, of course. Now Jackie is on a mission to take out the most wanted on the Sovereign’s hit list. We’ve already discovered that the job isn’t a morally clean one; this time around we get to see that it’s not a pretty one, either.
Try thirty feet of turkey excrement of pretty, to be exact. A couple thousands gallons. Some days it just doesn’t pay to be Darkness-host Jackie Estacado; on the other hand, when your soul is on the line, a man would do just about anything to get it back. At least comics don’t come with Smell-O-Vision, right? Whew!
In Part Three of the “Crooked” storyline—”Black Teeth”—Jackie recounts to the Sovereign how he took down the second target on his list. In South Dakota, where the turkeys roam … (Okay, anyway.) Posing as a reporter named Jack Estes (very creative, huh?), Jackie unearths information that leads him to the whereabouts of Troy Raymer, a former police deputy and now a drug-trafficking mass-murderer.
But it’s not long before Jackie is tricked and captured by Raymer’s thugs, and that’s when he goes diving. Of course, this is Jackie Estacado we’re talking about, so you can bet he comes back with a vengeance.
Overall, the story is a bit cumbersome to get through due to the continuous stream of interruptive narration, but the art by Jorge Lucas is fantastic as usual and it’s definitely worth seeing a muck-covered Jackie go to town on some thugs and close the case on Raymer in one wild ride.

Alright, just finished this one, and it was gross. But awesome. It is interesting to see how Jackie does without his full powers. I guess he is still a force to be reckoned with!
