Summary: “Faith collides when The Magdalena, warrior of the Catholic Church, and Daredevil, the Man Without Fear, meet in this stellar crossover by writer/artist Phil Hester (THE DARKNESS, GREEN ARROW) and Ande Parks (GREEN ARROW, SUPERMAN CONFIDENTIAL). When an ancient demon is bent on settling old scores with the Catholic Church, it’s up to The Magdalena and Daredevil to stop him!”

wita-the-magdalena-daredevil-coverAll in all, this was a cool issue.

There is a lot about this comic that’s good. For $3.99 you get thirty-two pages of Top Cow/Marvel goodness (the story itself is twenty-two pages, but it’s not lacking). Yeah, it would have been nice if it was $2.99, but considering Top Cow and Marvel teamed up for this one, that probably bumped up the price a bit. Still, I’d recommend it just for something fresh. But enough, let’s get on to the review!

Starting off, I want to say what an amazing cover this is by Phil Hester and Stejpan Sejic! I love it. The color and the artwork is beautiful.

These two make an interesting duo, and not just because their outfits clash so well. It’s a shame, I would like to see more of them together. Matt Murdock, of course, is Daredevil, the red-clothed Man without Fear whose loss of sight was compensated with a superhuman advancement of his other senses. His female accomplice in this issue is Patience, the chosen warrior deemed the Magdalena who wields a weapon called the Spear of Destiny.

The story starts off with Daredevil racing around the city, trying to track down a missing girl named Mikayia Robinson, when he is ambushed by Patience. Confusing him for an actual demon—the one she later explains took Mikayia—she attacks him, but once she realizes he’s just “one of those vigilantes,” they team up to find the child.

Simply put, the art isn’t bad at all and the story’s good. Well-paced, it hooks your interest from the start and doesn’t let go until the end. Thumbs up from me!

You can check out a preview of the comic, which comes out Wednesday, here. Thanks to Top Cow for the early copy, and stay tuned for my advanced review of Lady Pendragon #1.
