It’s not really about the flaxen-haired barbarian with rippling pecs, I swear! Characters come to life.
Many comic book writers feel the need to branch out into the world of literary novels. Creators like Brad Meltzer and Warren Ellis make the transition look so appealing. In Starr the Slayer, readers will be introduced to Len Carson, comic book creator of the Starr comic inside the comic. No, I’m serious. Starr is Len’s creation like Conan is Frazetta’s or Dawn is Linsner’s. The character and success of the comic series brought him lots of fame, wealth and women. Then Len decided he needed to get serious and move from comics to novels. He was met with utter failure and had unfortunately burned all his bridges back in the comics industry. Now Len wants back and has to beg his former publisher to have faith in his Starr the Slayer prequel, The Origin of Starr of the Slayer. The explicit content and graphics of Richard Corben look promising for more mature readers. The series seems to echo a little bit of Vertigo’s “Unwritten” in the sense that the character Len created will come to life.

Great choice for a preview, Beth! It fits in nicely alongside the interview.
I gotta pick this one up!
