Dead Leaves is a fast paced visual roller coaster that makes mutants look awesome.
Dead Leaves is a 2004 film brought to us by Production I.G. and distributed in the US by Manga Entertainment. The story follows two fugitives named Pandy (because of the red circle around her eye) and Retro (because of the old TV set for his head). They wake up on Earth with no memory of who they are or why they can kick so much ass. They quickly get into trouble on Earth by shooting up the place. The po-po take them to a lunar prison located on the badly deformed Moon.
Pandy and Retro are locked in straight jackets along with thousands of other mutant looking characters. It is obvious that the people in charge (Agent 777 and 666) loath the inmates and kill them for any reason. This does not bode will for our semi-heroes. They some how brake free and release all the other inmates after some intimate time. The challenge is to escape alive from robots, human guards, and the powerful agents and find out who they are and why they are there. Oh, and why Pandy has a red ring around her eye.
Dead Leaves is one of those animes similar to FLCL. It is fast paced and the characters are very expressive. Violence and blood fill the screen a majority of the time, but it isn’t gory. There are many sexual comments and innuendos between the two main characters and the inmates. It proves to provide a lot of comic relief plus, the occasion “what the hell?” thought. It isn’t very plot heavy, but is is still a good, punk rock watch. The movie is only about an hour, so it is a good quick watch, and a chance to broaden your anime list.

You know, this is one of those animes that I want to watch but then again don’t. It seems like I would like it, but just can’t seem to pick it up. I guess I will have to and just try it on, so to speak.
