E3 - Day 3 Wrap Up

Day 3 has come and gone and it was a day of hands on and technical difficulties.   Check out the GEN Day 3 wrap

Today was an enigmatic day for E3 followers. G4 has been streaming each conference live, but today Square Enix did not allow cameras in the room. Also, there were technical difficulties with streaming the Konami conference, so it will be archived later on the G4 site. What frustrating barriers! But the information is still out there, so here we go!

The Square Enix conference was a bit impromptu, and served mostly as a little treat for fans wanting to know more about Final Fantasy XIV. The entire thing was a Q&A about this new title. For those of you who do not yet know, FFXIV is a MMORPG like FFXI. However, the two worlds are NOT the same. Square Enix was very clear in stating that these two games are completely independent of one another. There will be a simultaneous world wide release in English, Japanese, German, and French. Enix also wants to emphasize player flexibility with this game. Gamers can play solo, or in a party at any time they want, for as long as they want. With FFXIV, the franchise is attempting to do things with MMORPGs that have never been done before- so hopefully we will see what some of these things are when the game is closer to release. As for now, I will focus all of my energy on the ABSOLUTELY GORGEOUS Final Fantasy XIII. I cannot wait for this. There is no guarantee that I would be able to pay for a long term membership to a MMORPG, but FFXIII is a game I will definitely be buying and playing until my friends are seriously concerned for my social life!

Konami!- Kojima :).

We will have 3 new Metal Gear Games!! Today Hideo Kojima gave a little more information about them at the Konami conference. The first game is Metal Gear Solid Arcade. This game will be online, connecting arcades together- quite intriguing.

Next is Metal Gear Solid Peacewalker. This is a direct sequal to MGS3 starring Big Boss (awesome). This is a PSP game, so now Metal Gear is portable!

Finally, we have Metal Gear Solid Rising- the new Raiden title on PS3, Xbox360, and PC.

Those of you who have been watching Kojima’s mysterious countdown know about the buzz surrounding Konami’s new unnamed title. Until today, fans have only seen an image of 2 masks- one beautiful and the other badly marred. Today, Kojima announced that this game is Castlevania: Lord of Shadow! In this Castlevania you can roam around in an open world- this game promises to be just as awesome but totally different from what you have played.

For me, today was a day of meetings and hands on fun.

My FAVORITE part of the day today was having the opportunity to play with the new Rockband Beatles.  The best part is the addition of 3 part harmonies for the vocals.   For the first time in rythm game history, we finally see some fun options for those of us who like to play the game of singing!

The setlist for the demo was very short but featured songs such as: “Here Comes the Sun”, “I Wanna Hold Your Hand”, “Octopus’s Garden” and “Back in the U.S.S.R”.    I am sure that more known songs will be added when the game actually releases.

The Harmonix booth also had a giant listing of all of the current songs that are available to download/for purchase in the Rockband collection.  I honestly had  no idea that there were this many songs on the roster to date.   Did you? Check this out!

Along with the Harmonix booth, I would say that the Sony booth is also another of my favorites.   I enjoyed God of War (although I think I was expecting more) and LOVED Uncharted 2.  I believe this game is one of the most underrated games of the past few years.

Anyhow,  here are a few more photos from today and yesterday that I would like to share.

What was your opinion of todays happenings?

You know, this is the FIRST con that I didn’t get the plague. I think that is partially due to http://www.kombo.com and their awesome hand sanitizer spray that they were giving out. Props to them!! Making E3 plague free … one sweaty palm at a time!
