Edge Magazine Celebrates its 200th Edition!

While I have always appreciated the shear accessibility of the Internet I will constantly posses a deep love for print media, even more so where video games are related. I still find the ability to read the magazine in the bath entertaining, while trying to read GEN off my iPhone only makes me scared I will drop it in the water.

Edge, one of the worlds leading in video game magazines will be celebrating its 200th birthday this March, a truly amazing feat considering that many people consider the print media format to be dead. An opinion sadly re-enforced by the recent disbanding of Americas Nintendo Power. Yet Edge still remains a stronger seller in the UK and finds itself imported all over the world.

Edge was launched in 1993 and since then has become recognized for its truly amazing standards of not just writing but also for design. In light of this the 200th edition of Edge will feature something really special. There will be 199 different designs of the magazine, with each of these being limited to 200 copies. The cover art will include iconic characters like Zelda, Link, Master Chief, Mario etc. While the 200th design will be specially created for Edge by the LittleBigPlanet developer Media Molecule; however this special design will only be available to subscribers.

For anyone who’s interested the 200th edition, despite looking the sex, will feature articles on the 100 best games to play today, an in-depth look at the creating of the PS3, interview with Ted Dabney (the co-founder behind Atari), who apparently will supply a look at the colourful history of Sega and four of  the leading game developers will discuss the future of gaming and what they imagine gaming to be in the year 2016, the year Edge will celebrate its 300th issue!

God I really wanted to freelance for Edge’s 200th issue. Whatever, 250 is a much better sounding number. I’m all over that one!
