The buzz about Gotham is that Johnny Depp may step in as the role of the Riddler for the next Batman movie. Along with Depp, rumor is that a few A listers may also have some upcoming roles. As of now these are just rumors, hopefully we’ll find out soon wether or not they are true. Word is that the Joker will also be replaced.
Since the release of “The Dark Knight” people everywhere have been speculating who the next big villan in the franchise will be. Many thoughts are on Depp to be Riddler, but other have been mentioned. If the rumors are true, it seems as if Crispin Glover will have some large shoes to fill as the next Joker (he’d of been my choice to begin with). As well as a possible Phillip Seymour Hoffman as the Penguin or Angelina Jolie could don Catwoman’s skin-tight suit. Truth or fiction, fanboys around the world must be having a heart attack at the mere possibility.
Although the cast is to be decided by the studio, I have my person bets on who will be the next villians and actors to step up to the plate.

Last I heard, Christopher Nolan said that he never wanted to have the Penguin, because he thought that the character was too unbelievable.
I just still can’t believe that Two-Face came and went so fast!!!

They haven’t even begun talking about casting. Chris Nolan hasn’t even confirmed a third movie yet.
They probably won’t replace the Joker—in the next Nolan Bat-film, anyway. Not only are those large shoes to fill, but what actor would want to now that Heath’s dead?
David Goyer (screen writer) said that they’re most likely going to choose a villain who hasn’t been seen on screen before. Ie, no Riddler, no Penguin. (Catwoman isn’t exactly a villain … and I’d LOVE to see Selina Kyle!) Anyway, I think that would be a very smart move and a great “end note” to a third and final Nolan Batman film.
I’m voting for Hush.
Ewan McGregor, I can see it now …
Poisoningkisses: Chris did say that.

When confronted with the rumors, Johnny Depp said “it’d be a fun gig”—but it’s just a rumor, there’s no validity.
And as for Hoffman, he said no, he wasn’t playing the part—and would rather have someone else play it, anyway.
And no Angelina Jolie as Catwoman, please. Besides, it goes against Nolan’s preference for fresh and non-overused actors.

I’m sick of Johnny Depp. I know I might get shot for saying that, but… I’d rather just keep him as Captian Jack Sparrow in my head forever.

Chris Nolan says that he doesn’t want to do a 3rd Batman movie because of the loss of Heath Ledger. He has stated a few times that he wouldn’t feel right and that he would probably leave it up to another director to do if the time came to do a 3rd.
And Ewan McGregor …… blalalalalalalalala. I’m telling you, I have a thing for guys who can sing!

From what I’ve read Nolan said he always invisioned the series as a trilogy, and considering the way he ended DK, it’d be a shame if he passed director duties to others.
I’ve also read that Depp and Hoffman are pretty much already signed on, and that Jolie is the only one envisioning herself as Catwoman.
But yeah…it’s all technically rumors. I would never have guessed they’d pick Ledger for the Joker, and I wasn’t convinced of the choice until I actually saw the film. But he was brilliant, so I think who ever they pick for whatever roles will be brilliant.
Just don’t bring back the Joker. It’s too big of shoes to fill. If anything show him from the back in a cell in Arkham, with a recording of Ledger’s laughter, and call it good.

It’d be sad to have the Nolan trilogy over because of Ledger’s loss but I understand the reasoning for it
I could see Jolie as catwoman (rawr)!
(mm mental imagery.. erm oh yea). But yea, need to give other actors/actresses a chance at these kinds of roles. I like Nolan’s approach in that respect.
I like Depp and think he’s been underestimated as an actor for too long so I’m glad to see he’s getting consideration
Guess we’ll see what happens I’d heard Caine dropped Depp and Hoffman’s names for the roles but its still too soon to know
I think if anything the third movie should honor Heath Ledger in some way and should be considered as a tribute to his work and his loss. Doesnt necessarily need to have the Joker in it, but writing it with his loss in mind would be a good way of paying respect
Just IMo tho

Haha…this is bizarre. We had a HUGE conversation about this at work yesterday. The conclusion that we came to is that Penguin would never happen within Christopher Nolan’s Batman universe because he is such an unbelievable character. Scarecrow had hallucinogenic drugs on his side, Joker was mentally unstable, and two-face was a victim of circumstance. They all were (relatively) believable.
For that reason, our best guesses are on Hush. He has history with Bruce Wayne and would be fantastic at bringing more inner-turmoil to the flick. Riddler would not be too out of the question either if Hush was brought in, since they have worked together before- even though they have bad blood now. I can see them putting together some ingenious and sick plot to take down Batman. No green spandex though please.
I hope they don’t bring Joker back out of respect. Or try to do any of the other characters from the old movies like Mr. Freeze or such. I do think they need a strong female character though, now that Rachel Dawes is dead. Poison Ivy is a bit out of the question because she would not a believable character in Nolan’s universe either. HQ makes no sense without Joker. I would LOVE to see Catwoman, but I worry that she has been bastardized by Halle Berry. She is not quite bad enough to be a full-on villain, but I would love to see her and Batman hook up…HAHA. I wonder if they will bring in Batgirl. They did not show her face when Two-Face captured Gordon’s family in TDK. So they left that open. But how could they have her before Robin? I don’t really like Robin much…
Speculating is so much fun!!! LOL

Aktrez: Nolan hasn’t confirmed whether or not he’s doing one—if he absolutely didn’t want to do one, he’d say it. But right now, he’s taking a break. All the cast and writers think he’ll go for another.
Jpyke: Depp and Hoffman are NOT signed on. Hoffman even stated he doesn’t want to, even if asked.

I totally agree with your statement about how they should do the Joker in the next film as a MINIMUM.
Fred: I did read that Caine said that and there’s just no validity. Either some tabloid thought it would be fun to say Caine said that—or manipulate his words—or Caine hit his head in that car accident. Hahahah!
Virtualgirl: I totally love Hush, and that’s why I want to see him (McGregor, McGregor
). And he’s very believable—he’s such a creepy and messed up character, and he could challenge Bats on both a strategic, intellectual, and physical level—a GREAT end note.
I was antsy about Ledger at first, too, until I saw more and more and started liking the idea more and more. And he was AMAZING. The casting for Nolan’s Bat-films is superb.
But whoever Nolan decides to use—both character-wise and casting-wise—I KNOW that man will make it realistic/believable. He’ll make it work. And if they do choose Selina, they’ll totally redeem her.

Oops, this—”I was antsy about Ledger at first, too, until I saw more and more and started liking the idea more and more. And he was AMAZING. The casting for Nolan’s Bat-films is superb.”—was meant for Jypke, not Meg.

I think Poison Ivy could be believable, she’d need to be a slightly different character but she can totally be written belieavably - just make her a villainess that uses various toxins in her crimes, and loves plants. Take the “she can make plants grow at will” thing and replace it with “She’s a scientist that has a speed plant growth fertilizer” and it’s possible (or just leave that bit out and focus on the poison part of the character).
Caine could’ve been having fun with people too
September 12th, 2008 at 6:47 am
You should write about some of the weird drinks they have too >.>
September 12th, 2008 at 2:49 pm
Yeah, i guess you are right, they could use some natural toxins and stuff for Poison Ivy, as long as they don’t let her grow plants at will. Still, I think there are better fits for the next movie!

Some one will replace Jim Carrey huh I doubt he can do a better job as the Riddler then Jim. You know what, I can see Dave Chappelle do the Riddler

I know Hush is a popular topic on the thread here, but most movie-goers have no clue who Hush is. I’ve never even seen Hush but for being introduced to him via wita and the web!
No, they’ll stick with the characters people know- they know joker, and they know riddler. Riddler will definitely be the next bad-guy, and Depp would be awesome in the role.
How about bringing in a Vicki Vale? Played by Kaley Cuoco. Mmmmm Kaley. *drool* Or Emilie de Ravin. Mmmmmm Emilie. Or…oh, I’ll stop now.
I’d rather see them focus on ONE bad guy for a third film and have a more one-on-one major villain/Batman confrontations over the course of the film.
Lastly, I’m REALLY bummed the Arkham Asylum game has been moved from June 24thish to like August or September now. =( Wahhh.

(Whoa, this post is old, LOL)
That’s true about Hush, Jaym—but most non-comic readers didn’t really know about Scarecrow, either …
I have to disagree about the next villain—whoever it ends up being, I bet it’s not going to be someone who has been on-screen before. Key people involved in Nolan’s Bat-films (including screenwriter David Goyer) have mentioned their planned aversion to such characters for the third film.
I’m with you on the lone bad guy idea.
I’m bummed, too. ;______;

david tennant expressed that he might want the role…
