I’ll be back…with some sweet collectibles

It’s fair to say that one of the best sci-fi movies of all time is James Cameron’s The Terminator (1984). The story of a soon-to-be apocalyptic future where Artificial Intelligence has not only become self aware but is bent on destroying humanity has become a classic of the genre. The popularity of The Terminator spawned Terminator 2: Judgement Day in 1991, Terminator 3: Rise of the Machines in 2003 (if you haven’t seen it yet, consider yourself lucky) and even the successful television series Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles. But what the fans really wanted was to see what happened after judgement day; the war between Skynet and the Resistance and the evolution of John Connor from scared boy to determined military leader. And soon, we will have it.

As the new film in the series, Terminator: Salvation starring Christian Bale, is due to hit theatres on May 22nd, the anticipation runs high. To mark the film’s release, Sideshow Collectibles is once again tempting us with some brilliant collectibles that are almost too good to resist. Whether you need to raid your tip jar or take a few bundles from your money pile to get them, there is something Terminator for everyone this year.

John Connor

For Terminator fans and the Christian Bale addicts like myself, Sideshow Collectibles and Hot Toys is offering the 12″ John Connor figure. The likeness to Christian Bale is uncanny and the figure sports over 36 points of articulation. The figure is geared up in real fabric clothing including a leather jacket, boots and tactical body harness. Also included are an assortment of weapons and gadgets that any resistance fighter needs: headset, radio, magazine pouches and some nice “boomsticks” like the XM-26 LSS and M4A1 with tactical red dot sight. Paired with a 12″ figure of the T-800 endoskeleton Terminator, this figure will add a whole new dynamic to your collectibles shelf. This limited edition collectible is due 3rd quarter this year and will run about $139. Sadly, despite popular request, this collectible does not include the Apologetic Film Crew figure or on set hissy fit audio options.

T-800 Bust

Sure liquid metal was cool in Terminator 2: Judgement Day but there’s something about the bare bones of the T-800 terminator. So close to being human in appearance and yet they are the vehicle of our extermination. This half scale bust is brought to us by the wizards at Hollywood Collector’s Gallery and expected to ship 4th quarter of this year. This bust wields two plasma rifles and even has eyes that light up for that menacing red glare. Crafted out of polystone and metal elements, this bust also has an extra little design bonus: a removable microchip in the head. Makes for an excellent nightlight for small children or at the very least and amazing collectible for you. Price tag: $999.99 Expected to ship 4th quarter.

T-800 Endoskeleton

Straight from Sideshow Collectibles comes the full scale Terminator Endoskeleton Combat Veteran. Standing at over 6 feet tall, this remarkable statue is as detailed as it gets. Aside from the elaborately detailed base riddled with rocks, debris and human skulls, this figure also shows it’s war wounds with chrome wear and ammunition dings. This T-800 has been in some scrapes. The T-800 also has motion sensors for it’s lights and offers 3 different lighting settings; imagine walking through your living room in the dark and suddenly seeing two red terminator eyes light up in the darkness. So much for sleeping.

This sculpture is a behemoth, weighing in at 366 pounds, and is shipped in 5 separate pieces complete with tools and instructions. I was surprised to find that despite the price tag of $5950, this item is currently on backorder. But take one look at the pictures, the video and all the customer reviews and you’ll start wishing you had some major expendable income. Check out the backstage pass at Sideshow Collectibles and you will be reeling.
