Image just announced a new comic property slated to debut this April, and they are bringing some big talent along for the ride. Meet Viking.
So what can I tell you about Viking? Not much really. As of right now, details are being locked up tight. What we do know is that it is promised to be one of the most brutal crime tales to hit stands in recent years. Why? Because it is a crime drama that unfolds in the 9th century. Hence the title.
Viking will be written by Ivan Brandon – known for his work on Secret Invasion: Home Invasion – and illustrated by Nic Klein, a rising star in the Marvel Comics universe.
“Viking is everything I love about crime fiction filtered through one of the most violent and fascinating periods of human history,” writer Ivan Brandon said. “It’s been in the works for so long at this point that I’m overwhelmed to finally get to show it to people. The overwhelmingly positive response to the teaser alone has Nic and I humbled.”
“Viking is one of the coolest series we’re debuting this year,” said Image Publisher Eric Stephenson. “I’ve always admired Ivan’s commitment to taking chances and doing comics that stand apart from everything else on the racks, and the more we’ve talked about what he has planned for Viking, the more excited I’ve become. From the story concept to the execution of the artwork to the format – Ivan’s really going for it with this one!”
Personally, even though there isn’t much to go off of at the moment, I am excited to see more of Viking. Both highly conceptualized and stylized, the book looks to offer something unique in a saturated comic space.
Viking #1 will run 24 pages and retail for $2.99. You can check it out for yourself on April 1. No joke! (Get it?)

Meagan, the comics you like are getting darker and darker. Is there something you need to tell us?

We might need to have an intervention, Will. Oh, wait … I read a lot of the same comics … *sneaks away*
