Inauguration Day Special: President Obama ‘tooned.

Putting politics aside, you can’t deny that today was a historic day. You also can’t deny that President Barack Obama and his unprecedented level of charisma have already landed him a place in pop culture. Stars are already vying to play him in future movie roles, merchandise is being mass-produced in his image, and video games are using him as comedic relief. Then there are the comic books.

As a bit of an Inauguration Day treat, I scrounged up a gallery of comics that newly-elect President Obama already infiltrated. Check them out below.

Obama by Alex Ross

While this image may not be on a comic cover, it has spread like wildfire through comic and non-comic communities alike. Alex Ross, one of the gods of the comic universe, illustrated this awesome image of Obama in a Superman-esq pose. The image is now plastered on posters, t-shirts and other merchandise.

Barack Obama: Presidential Material

Presented by IDW Publishing, The Presidential Material venture explored both the Democratic and Republican presidential nominees in the form of graphic biographies. Kudos to them for presenting all their research in an easy to swallow format..

Savage Dragon #137

Savage Dragon backed Obama with an endorsement early on in his campaign, and is expected to make another appearance in an official president capacity. Personally, I think Obama should take on Savage Dragon as head of security.

Spider-man #583

This is the book that everyone is talking about, and that sold out nation-wide. In Spiderman #583 Spider-Man helps to identify an impostor Obama through a game of basketball. Fist bumping is also involved. Copies of the book are apparently selling for over $200 on eBay, and are already in their second printing.

Youngblood #8

Releasing this February, President Obama will also be appearing in Image’s Youngblood #8. In the issue Obama will begin his term by picking out the best and the brightest for the new Youngblood team. The book will be short, running only six pages in length, but will set the stage for May’s Youngblood #9 which will also star President Obama when the White House becomes a battleground.

These few examples aren’t the end of what is sure to be a deluge of comic crossovers. With the success of Spider-Man #583, more companies are sure to try and cash in on Obama-mania.

Wasn’t Youngblood on #8 like 10 years ago?

I’d like to see all the comic book covers after Obama fails to keep all the naive promises he made to get elected.

Will is always so heavy on the optimism, it’s almost too much to handle. ;)

Billy is just a ray of optimism and hope! :)

I love that the president is a comic book fan! I think it will be interesting to see if it effects how he does things on a mental level.
