Jinxie: Culture Club Tuesdays - Harajuku Lovers

This week’s Culture Club feature focuses on entertainment and fashion megastar, Gwen Stefani, and her super cute line of Japanese fashion inspired Harajuku Lovers, paying homage to one of her favorite countries to tour.

A little background on our designer, Gwen Stefani has been the frontwoman for ska/punk Orange County based band, No Doubt, for over 15 years. Known for her individual and creative style, she’s stated in interviews that one of her favorite places to tour was Japan and always loved the edgy fashion. In 2003, Gwen moved onto to another project and opened her own fashion and handbag line called L.A.M.B. In the following year, Gwen went solo, releasing a pop/dance album with the same name as her clothing line. In addition, she introduced four Japanese dancers as her “entourage” or the Harajuku Girls, who appeared with her at every press event, music video and her tour. Her Harajuku Girls, who were always dressed in radical Japanese styles like fruits and gothic lolita brought on plenty of criticism, but nonetheless, Stefani churned out another solo album and kept the girls on board.

In 2005, Gwen launched an additional clothing line geared towards a younger audience, Harajuku Lovers, taking hints from Japanese street fashions seen in the Harajuku District. The Harajuku Lovers line is all about bright colors, crazy prints and cute characters, usually of Gwen and her girls. The line offers a variety of products - clothes for women, and children, purses and handbags, watches and even shoes.

Think you’re too old for HL?The lines offers such a wide variety of prints that it’s easy to find something that suits you. Hey, I’m 24 and I own waaaay too many bags!
