Yesterday, GameStop announced their midnight event for Little Big Planet. Today, we get the sad news that Little Big Planet is being recalled world wide. A game that is already in the hand of some game journalists, has been confirmed as pulled back because of a song.
Media Molecule has posted saying it wanted to patch “expressions” from the Qur’an out of LittleBigPlanet, but Sony decided the only way forward to to pull all discs back from retail.
“We learnt yesterday that there is a lyric in one of the licensed tracks which some people may find offensive, and which slipped through the usual screening processes,” said the post.
“Obviously MM and Sony together took this very seriously. LBP should be enjoyable by all. So within 12 hours of hearing about this issue involving a lyric (in Somalian, I believe!), we prepared an automatic day 0 patch and had a new disk image ready; however a decision was made within Sony that the right thing to do for quality and support of people with no on-line was to replace existing disks. They assure us that they are doing everything in their power to get things straightened out as fast as possible, and will announce dates soon.”
Added: SCEA has announced that Little Big Planet will ship to retail stores the week of October 27.
“Sorry for the delay, and rest assured, we are doing everything we can to get LittleBigPlanet to you as soon as possible.”

Sad, but at the same time I’m not getting it on launch day anyways. This just gives me more time to play Fable 2.

Hm, as much as I want this game, I can understand why they would want to hold off for just a while on this. I personally would not be offended by it, but I know many who would… sad really. The Qur’an is a lovely read if you take it as such, but in todays times… yeah. At any rate, I can wait a little more for one of the more anticipated titles of the year.

Umm, not sure how accurate this may be, if someone wants to try and find out more because I am running into walls trying to find the info, but this blog claims to have the wording that is under question.
