LucasArts and BioWare - Star Wars™: The Old Republic™

LucasArts and BioWare met up with Game Journalists in San Francisco to announce their new project, Star Wars: The Old Republic. The game takes place 300 years after the events of Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic. James Ohlen is the creative director of BioWare Austin and working on the project. He used to be the director and lead writer for KOTOR. EA will be used as the publishing partner for Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic.

If you are a Star Wars buff, the events in Star Wars: The Old Republic take place more than 3,500 years before the rise of Darth Vader. To give you an example of where it fits in the Star Wars lore.

BioWare has not announced species and classes yet. Instead they point out that every character will have a very iconic and unique look to them. You will be able to choose to play good or evil by playing on either the Light or Dark side of the Force.

While BioWare states that they would like it to work on a wide range of platforms, the PC is the only one they are focusing on today. No release date or subscription model released yet, but there is a recommendation on the site to sign up for the newsletter for future information about beta tests.

This will be a good game, but extremely addicting I fear.

I’m fascinated how they’re going to do the combat system- part of the charm (to me) of KOTOR is the turn-based/pause-based combat ability… I love being able to calmly analyze what’s going on in combat. Although, I have the same fears for Fallout 3’s modification from their old combat system too, but I’m sure both will be great.

Now the question is- do I get Warhammer Online or Stargate Worlds while waiting for this to arrive? =D

Druid - you sound like you are going to have quite a full plate! I never played KOTOR - which is a huge shame on my part. I need to get on that and about 75 other games!
