Addictions are a funny thing. Unlike many other addicts I don’t seem to relapse into crack or any other such drugs, no I relapse into an old Harvest Moon addiction (linked heavily with my Viva Pinata addiction), so you can imagine my therapists shock when we both found out that Natsume will be releasing a new Harvest Moon game from the DS this May called Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming.
Sadly I am going to shatter your fun since this isn’t a regular Harvest Moon game. Oh I have found memories of trying to wrestle my awesome yellow Game Boy Pocket out of my mum’s hands so I could try to grow as many winter cabbages as humanly possibly, but Frantic Farming is an action-puzzle game.
To keep in tie with the Harvest Moon charm the game is set in the aptly named Sunny Island where vegetables are growing out of control, and since kids today refuse to eat vegetables, Sunny Island will soon be buried if something isn’t done about it (insert dramatic music here). According to President and CEO of Natsume, Hiro Maekawa, Harvest Moon: Frantic Farming will contain different game play modes such as score attack, brain-teasing mission and free play modes, unlockables such as art and music, multiplayer experiences and gamers can choose from 12 different playable characters. Hiro Maekawa also seems pretty confident that old school Harvest Moon fans and puzzle-action fans will both really enjoy this game.
Sadly I no longer consider any game good if it doesn’t come with the ability to grow vegetables, for obvious reasons this means my list of top 10 games is pretty bleak, and despite the new direction, I will still be placing my therapist back on my speed dial.
