Next Generation of Girl Gamers!

At Comic Con I was amazed at how many kids were there, not only that, but how many little girls recognized me as Supergirl and wanted their pictures with me. There were even little Supergirls there too and it was adorable! Once me and Jinxie were in a hurry to get somewhere so we were running down the convention hall in full costume trying to get to where we were going, we were stopped for photo ops and I felt a little tug on my cape. I turned around and there was this sweet little girl about 5 or 6 smiling up at me, and her out of breath dad says,”She just chased you down the hall wanting to get her picture with you!”. Wow. I felt so special!! It made me miss my little sisters back home.

Seeing these little girls dressed up and not just b/c there parents wanted them to. They knew who they were dressed as and looked at me like a Disney Princess at Disney World when they knew my costume and wanted a photo with me. They would give me a big hug and a huge smile. It just reminds me of how many little gamer girls we have growing up right now, and what that says for our next generation of female gamers and female geeks alike.

Here is a friend of mine’s niece -

About 50 seconds in she gets Mario Party DS and her excitement is adorable. I STILL get that excited over a new video game…to this day! Ladies, we have a bright future ahead of us with the new generation of girl gamers! I am so happy to be apart of it and so happy to see it happen! *please keep your comments family friendly, Lulu will be seeing this post…so please, be kind*.

Thankfully, this new generation will hopefully be the new blood that both games and comics need right now.

Cute! I’m sure there will be a much higher percentage of girl gamers in the younger generation than ours. There are TONS of games, especially on the DS, that are aimed specifically towards younger girls.

    Yay Supergirls! :D So cute!

I want to make this comment without coming off like an internet jerk. So think of this as an innocent question, I’m not judging you…just curious.

Why did you leave in your belly button ring. Why not go with something more subtle. Maybe Super Girl has a belly button ring now. I don’t know, maybe I’m getting old.

Mind you, I should just keep my mouth shut as I’ve been wearing the same Hunter S Thompson outfit for ten halloweens in a row…but I look and think, “All that work…and still the anachronistic belly button ring.”

Teknohead: B/c it’s a pain to remove my belly button ring and replace it with a new one. And b/c I am not super anal about my costumes, I make them my own. So what if I have my belly button pierced and Supergirl doesn’t, so what if my boots aren’t perfect or if the color of my cape doesn’t match my skirt perfectly? I don’t sweat the small stuff. See, no harm done.

Plus, many geeks (and I mean that lovingly) loved to come up to me and talk to me about how Supergirl would be able to even get her belly button pierced in the first place. It was fun.

    … Heh.

Hey, maybe someone should request to a comic artist that she go wild and get one. ;)

No worries, whenever I get around to cosplaying, my character will have a fairy tattoo on her back. Not much I can do about that one!

On a side note, did anyone notice a few of the Victoria’s Secret models sport belly rings now?

I’m really embarrassed about my belly ring… I didn’t realize that it was just supposed to be in your navel, and so I got a huge 2 foot ring pierced right through my stomach! Needless to say I get a lot of strange looks.

Well, gotta run… I’ve been having odd stabbing pains in my stomach!

(Seriously, the little ones are so cute here… I said earlier in the other picture thread that my favorite shot was the one with the girl surrounded by her favorite Disney princesses!

I would expect by the time they’re reaching their late twenties the entire concept of “girl gamer” vs. “guy gamer” will not even be a discussion anymore thanks to the roads being paved by the likes of the women here on G.E.N.!)

I agree Ray, the little kids are the best part of the con. Seriously, it is amazing to see them get excited about something, not just because their parents drag them along!

I have to share one of my fav. moments as well. I was dressed as Belle from Beauty and the Beast and, as I’m looking at all the cameras, my knees get glomped by a little (had to have been 4 or 5) year old girl. She was SOOOo excited to see us she just ran up, in the middle of everything and hugged us all. It really gave me the feeling like I was at Disneyland! I almost wanted to cry.
