The first two official photos of the comic-to-film adaptation of Kick-Ass have been released!
Matthew Vaughn is directing the movie version of the Kick-Ass comic by the Marvel division Icon. Yeah, the ridiculously popular comic by Mark Millar and John Romita, Jr., that’s been flying off comic stands everywhere—breaking records and taking names. The comic that hasn’t even hit seven issues yet and it has already been snatched up for movie rights.

And for good reason, too. This comic is, well, freaking kick-ass. And if you haven’t been reading it, do yourself a favor and track down the issues.
The first photos feature actor Aaron Johnson on the Toronto set portraying high school student Dave Lizewski, who is more commonly known as Kick-Ass.

Here’s a plot synopsis (beware possible spoilers!):
Dave Lizewski is a kid growing up in a rundown suburb of America, he isn’t a gamer, he isn’t a jock, he isn’t a mathlete, he’s just a regular kid. When he is not hanging out at the local comic store with his friends Todd and Marty, he is fantasising about his school teacher and Katie Deauxma, the class hottie. The only thing that is unusual about Dave is that about a year ago his Mother died. But somehow through this blend of normality, teenage angst and irritation at being continually mugged, Dave makes the decision to become a superhero’ KICK ASS! Dave’s first foray into being a Superhero results in him being stabbed and run over. When Dave recovers he realises he can’t walk away from being a hero, and when he successfully steps in on a mugging he brings himself to the attention of the US media and Frank D’Amico could this be the guy who knicked his coke? As Dave gets sucked into the dark world of vigilante crime fighting he gains a sidekick named ‘Red Mist’.

Discuss: What do you think of Kick-Ass? Is it too early to be making it into a movie, or does that just totally kick ass? (Shutting up now.)

LOL. Okay, I haven’t read this one yet, but am going to catch up now. I was wondering why his costume is kinda…well…you know…lame. Now it makes sense! I don’t think it is too early for a movie, this way they can cross-promote each other. Although I does boggle my mind how many comics are getting big-screen counterparts!

So, this isn’t the same as Spiderman how? (minus the whole bug bite, alien virus part)

Kick-Ass is about an average high school student who wonders why no one, ever since comics have been around, has tried being a superhero in real-life. So Dave decides to dress up as one, fight crime, and see what happens, and things take off from there.
The series is hilarious, smart, and original—the art is fantastic and so is the writing. You just have to read it to see why.
