Phoenix Comicon 2009

YES, there ARE conventions in Phoenix, AZ!! Phoenix Comicon, albeit small compared to better known comicons, is slowly but surely growing!

I can call myself a Phoenix native as I’ve lived about 99% of my life ere in Phoenix. So seeing the small anime and comic conventions in the area growing and gaining interest is definitely an amazing thing. I actually grew up attending the San Diego Comicon since I was in about the sixth grade, and then also attending Anime Expo as I got older and traveled on my own. But now, cons in Phoenix are starting to get more noteriety and popularity, it makes it easier to be a fangirl from homebase!

Unfortunately, due to my crazy work schedule, I was only able to hit PCC for a few hours, while also meeting up with GEN buddy BlankLogo (you can see many of his works in our galleries and of our cosplays!) who drove from LA with a few friends. The nice thing about little Phoenix cons is that they are a lot more laid back and relaxed than their southern California counterparts. It’s more of a giant hangout with some shopping and cool guests than anything! So here’s my little photo report.

Arizona Ghostbusters

Nightrider

TWO De Loreans… but only one has a flux capacitor.

Anime Singled Out, in a VERY small room, unfortunately.

Plushies in the dealers room!

Zombie Last Supper!

Cosplayers!

You know, Jinxie, sometimes the smaller ones are the most fun to continue going to in the long run. You get to really know some of the people there and can make some good friends at them.

I agree with rjac; sometimes the smaller cons are the best. Coming from Texas towns, those are the ones I most frequent. I get to see the same people over and over again and actually get to talk with them for longer than just a few seconds. It’s a neat, close-knit feeling. That being said, I cannot frickin wait for NYCC next week! :)

I totaly <3 small cons. In all fairness the biggest UK con is only around 2000 people. but every March we have one called MinamiCon, this is its 14th year and it only has places for 250 while many more descend upon the bar in the hotel where it is held to just get drunk. I find smaller cons is where I have most fun, the atmosphere is so laid back and relaxing and in my hotel room I often ended up with £300+ worth of mine and my friends booze in my bath tub.

Agree with everyone. I like the big cons, but small cons are nice for a bit of a breather. Great photos doll!

That little girl is adorable in cosplay! This makes me really excited for NYCC and Katsucon, which are coming up this month.
