Since Mario Galaxy is the “it” game right now, and I absolutely love it, I figured why not do a Top 7 List dedicated to my favorite Italian plumber; here are the Top 7 Mario Games (in my opinion).
1. Super Mario Galaxy: Super Mario Galaxy was/is perfection; no other game has even come close to accomplishing what Mario Galaxy did in controls and creativeness. From running around upside down on a planet to feeding fat little Luma’s tons of star bits, I have not had this much fun playing a video game in a VERY long time. A game that gets me to go out and buy the strategy guide is a near impossible feat; but I just had to get every last star!
2. Super Mario World 3:
A classic Mario game that everyone remembers. I think this one is second on my list because it’s the only Mario game that closely resembles Mario Galaxy; with it’s strange power ups and mapping out each level as connective pieces. Super Mario World 3 used to be my top Mario game, that is before Mario Galaxy came and stole my heart.
3. Super Mario Sunshine:
I know most people didn’t like Super Mario Sunshine; but I absolutely loved it. I loved the worlds, and I loved the idea of being on the island and yes, I loved my little buddy Fludd. I thought Mario Sunshine was a great concept and was a worthy game to be in the Mario series.
4. Super Mario 64:
Who didn’t love Mario 64?! My fondest memory on this game was the music, I don’t know why but I will remember the music of Mario 64 till the end of time. This game also closely resembles Mario Galaxy with having you re-play through levels to accomplish different goals with in each world. This one also had me completely hooked on finding each and every star.
5. Mario Kart:
You know I had to get Mario Kart in here; this list would be incomplete without it. I dont think there is a soul around who doesn’t adore Mario Kart, and not just one version either, but all of them. Other cartoon racers have tried to copy Mario Kart and have failed miserably, nothing is like Mario Kart.
6. The New Super Mario Bros.:
I was thrilled to finally have a real Mario game on my DS, and what a great one to have too! The New Super Mario Bros. brought back a lot of gamers passion for Mario games, it made you remember why you loved Mario games and just how fun they could be. Plus, I am a sucker for having to collect things (golden coins), if you haven’t noticed already.
7. Super Mario Bros.:
Lastly we come to the original Super Mario World, the game that made gamers out of many many people. I had an Atari which I loved, but I never really got into gaming until I played Super Mario Bros. I was hooked. This game will always be the game that won me over. It will forever hold a special place in many gamers hearts.
I know I missed a lot, but I can only have 7 on my lists. I did not have either Paper Mario’s on the list because although I did like Super Paper Mario, I just think they lack that Mario feel. I also am gonna get a lot of grief for not having Super Smash Bros up there, honestly, I have never been a Smash Bros fan; but it’s starting to look like Brawl will change all that.

I have to admit that I really do like your list. My only change would be that I would still put all versions of Mario Kart over Mario Galaxy. Please don’t get me wrong. I love Galaxy and I have not really stopped playing it since I bought it. But I am and have always been a family gamer. I like my mature games, yeah sure, but I really love it when my girlfriends at the time, or now my wife, or my friends can all sit and play for a while. I love the multi player feel of a lot of games. And when I can share that experience with others, I don’t know, it just makes for a better gaming experience all around. At least for me.
