Rock out with your block out

Perhaps the apocalypse is approaching, because when I first got wind of the newest addition to the Lego nerd cult of games, I thought I saw the light.  Or maybe it’s just the sweltering climate we’re having here in Los Angeles.

Rumors at GDC have now been proven true.  It is indeed coming.  And the fans are excited.

Traveler’s Tales and Harmonix announced officially earlier today their collaboration with Warner Brothers to produce the title.  It is slated to be on nearly every next gen platform on the market- with a separate DS version being developed in partnership with Backbone Entertainment.

All the features of the popular titles will be present here.  Including character avatar customization, hilarious antics and other new and unique attributes.  You can create your own entourage, roadies, band manager, and crew.  And of course, there is designated compatibility with both Rock Band and other musical game controllers.

“LEGO Rock Band combines two compelling properties and creates an experience that family members of all ages will enjoy playing together as a group,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. “Harmonix and MTV Games are the world experts in music gameplay, and we’re genuinely thrilled to bring the unique and humour-filled LEGO experience to their Rock Band universe.”

“We’re thrilled to offer another LEGO branded gaming experience that will deliver humorous and social play for families and friends,” said Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, Vice President, the LEGO Group. “LEGO Rock Band is built around the same values of imagination and family-friendly creative role play that is present in other LEGO videogames. It will deliver innovative new elements of game play that complement the fun of the Rock Band experience.”

Curious to know which tunes are set to make the playlist?  Here’s a taste of the lineup to expect:

  • Blur- “Song 2″
  • Carl Douglas- “Kung Fu Fighting”
  • Europe- “The Final Countdown
  • Good Charlotte- “Boys and Girls”
  • Pink- “So What”

So there you have it.  Prepare to rock out with your block out this Holiday season.

Although I’m sure it will be a gas to play, I’m just a little afraid of developers overdoing it with the whole Lego thing. It’s cute, it’s fun but when will it just be too much?
