SDCC Exclusive Figure Reviews

Acquiring exclusive figures at ComicCon can be a patience testing matter. But is it worth it?

As the resident obsessed figure collector, I deemed it appropriate to pick up some of those exclusive toys I had been hearing so much about. There were many out there so I had to be a bit picky. Below are my reviews of the figures. My wallet is making me do this.

Domo Qee Collectible Figure: Produced by Darkhorse and Toy2R. Ages 8 & up. Cost: $9

Domo-kun is the mascot of Japan’s NHK television station and has gained world-wide recognition. Everything from apparel, lighters and shot glasses have featured Domo on them. Because of his popularity, more and more figures and been released. The SDCC exclusive is a color variant from the Qee mini series. The figure is transparent orange and stands 2 inches tall. He also has little movable arms and legs. If you or anyone you know is a fan of Domo-kun, this was a good buy. Tiny, cheap and rare are a good mix (when it comes to toys). Verdict: Worth it.

Hellboy Mez-itz Figure: Prodcued by Mezco. Ages 16 & Up. Cost: $20

What Con wouldn’t be complete without an exclusive comic figure? Mezco has a template figure for many different designs to be applied to; much like Kidrbot’s Munny. They call these Mez-itz and featured a Hellboy design for the SDCC goers. Hellboy stands 5″ tall and comes with a gun. The figure is painted more in the style of the animated cartoon movies which helps reflects the shape of the figure nicely. If you like Mighty Muggs and/or Munnys, this is a good figure to add to that collection. Verdict: Worth it.

High Roller Fatcap: Produced by Kidrobot. Designed by DEPH. Ages 15 & Up. Cost: $75 Edition of 100.

The place to be for vinyl collectors is always the Kidrobot booth. Each day an exclusive figure came out and buyers had to wait at least one hour in line to obtain one. This was after waiting outside an hour before the convention opened so one could get to the booth first. It was a bit ridiculous. The one day I actually got there in time was Friday where they were selling the High Roller Fatcap. Becky and I waited in line for an hour and a half and finally got to cut in line to just buy ours. The Fatcap comes with a paint roller and a crate of spray cans. The gas mask on the figure is huge and the paint job is very nicely done with metallic accents. High roller is a larger figure and sounds like a spray paint can when shaken. For Kidrobot collectors it is a cool figure to have, but not necessarily for other collectors. Verdict: Not Worth it.

HI-DEF Bobafett: Produced by ToyQube. Designed by KANO. Ages 15 & Up. Cost: $75 Edition of 150.

Designer Star Wars figures are the bomb diggity. Artist KANO brought to life one of the saga’s most notorious bounty hunters. A whooping 8 inches and a detailed cloth jacket puts this figure on the map. KANO’s urban representation of Bobafett is one of the coolest Star Wars adaption in a figure I have seen yet. Even the wear and tear of the helmet is shown with silver flake paint. I wasn’t even going to pick this one up but when I saw it in person it had to be mine. There was no waiting in line either. Verdict: Worth it.

Argh I so wanted that Hellboy Munny! But I didn’t see it. :( Not that I would have even had room in my luggage. I barely managed to fit my Wolverine Mighty Mugg.

    Oooh Bobafett!

Haha. Love the Bobafett one. But it’s Hellboy for me as well. I really wish I had seen one, I would have bought it in a heartbeat. I suppose they are going to get all expensive and hard to find now aren’t they?
