Shadowline Brings Platinum Grit To Print

Fans of the popular web-comic Platinum Grit have something to celebrate today – Image’s Shadowline recently announced they plan to bring the intriguing property to print.

If unfamiliar with the series, Platinum Grit was spawned from the minds of Trudy Cooper and Danny Murphy, and offers up equal doses of sci-fi and humor. In the first volume alone pits main characters Jeremy and Nils up against the Zodiac, a 1940s private detective and a set of alien matchmakers. Then there are the less dramatic encounters with the crazy relatives.

The comic began in 1994 as a self-published work, running to episode 10 by 1998. Each episode ran 35-45 pages, and has established an eager fan following through the years. Now completed through episode 18 (which is described as NSFW), the adventures of Jeremy and Nils seem to be getting crazier by the page.

Not that that takes away any of the legitimacy of the series. In 2005 the creators of Platinum Grit grabbed a hold of the Ledger Award for Writer of the Year, Artist of the Year and Web comic of the Year.

“Platinum Grit being published by Shadowline is a dream come true for me,” Shadowline Editor Kristen Simon said. “I’ve been a fan of the web comic for many years now and was thrilled when we were able to bring it over to Shadowline’s website as well.  Publisher Jim Valentino enjoyed it so much he agreed we needed to print the collections! Fellow fans of Platinum Grit are going to be very happy with this edition.”

The print edition will collect the first five episodes of the web series, run 184 black and white pages, and retail for $14.99. You can check it out for yourself on March 11.
