Cosplay always seems to be up and coming, even outside of conventions. Take one of Suncoast’s attractions; Animania.
Trivia, games, and cosplay- what more could a cosplayer ask for outside of a con? Even those not interested in cosplaying but who are into anime and manga and are welcome. Fan of video games? Don’t be shy! Come on in!
Animania takes place in Suncoast stores all over the US, but often has a few weeks between events. Ask your local stores if they take part, and make sure to go!
The specific event I attended was at the Northtown Mall in Spokane, Washington. A handful of people showed up, including children, teens and adults alike, mixed in with costumers of all kinds of fandoms.
I took the time to conduct a short interview with Sean, the young man whose World of Warcraft costume had the judges nodding in appreciation the moment he walked into the store! Hands down, he won the costume contest! (And yes, that’s me dressed as KH2’s Aerith… And yes, my real name is Jessica.)

That guy’s costume is so amazing. It’s funny how he sounds so mild-mannered in the interview. Total contrast with all the spikes and things he’s wearing.
I’ve heard of these events before, but never actually went to one. I need to stop being lazy and find the next one near me! I need a between-cons fix.

I’m jealous — there’s not a single Suncoast still open that I know of in the southeast.
