Retro Review: American McGee’s Alice


Alice in Wonderland is one of the most beloved children’s stories out there. However, the original stories by Lewis Carroll weren’t just aimed toward children. No, that would have been a waste, because what child (especially today’s breed) is going to be able to look past rabbits, pretty girls, and mirrors to see the darkness and ugliness that could hide underneath? Perhaps most people can’t see the macabre heart of Alice, but American McGee could. For this, I applaud him. American McGee’s Alice takes the classic tale and turns it on its head for a topsy-turvy, harrowing look at what goes on inside the mind of an Alice that’s too far gone down the rabbit hole to ever be saved…
