Yesterday EA announced they were giving their fans another chance at designing a kick-ass weapon for their upcoming game, Army of Two: The 40th Day. This contest is open to participants in North America and Europe and will be running from June 23, 2009 to July 12, 2009. To enter you must submit 1 image of your weapon along with a 200 word description; all entries should be submitted to http://www.armyoftwo.com.

One HILARIOUS entry-The Beer Keg Silencer, "for stealthy kills and post-combat refreshment".
Creative Director, Alex Hutchinson advises “if you want to win, probably the best idea is to design weapons that push the boundaries of reality as far as possible without crossing over into the land of fantasy”.
All submissions will be voted on by the community until July 19, 2009. From June 20 -26, finalist submissions will be reviewed by EA’s expert development team who will then chose the top two designs. Winners will be contacted July 30, 2009, and hopefully we’ll get to see their designs in the new game.
Army of Two: The 40th Day should be hitting store shelves this winter on Xbox 360, Playstation 3, and Playstation Portable. To view more of the “Beer Keg Silencer” and other entries, visit the Army of Two Weapons Designer Gallery here.

In just five agonizingly long days Resident Evil 5 will at last be unleashed upon the suspecting public and inevitably deemed the undisputed Game of the Year, despite still being only March (my money’s on SimAnimals). To celebrate Capcom’s genre-defining franchise and make the wait a little less painful, GEN has a week-long extravaganza of Resident Evil goodness including retro reviews and some seriously awesome original features you won’t find anywhere else. You know I normally hate everything, including other people, rainbows and especially the laughter of children, so when I say “some seriously awesome features”, I mean it. Look no further than the Resident Evil Casting Couch if you don’t believe me, and let that be a hint at things to come during the rest of the week.
As an added bonus, by simply leaving a comment on any of the posts listed below, you are automatically entered into a random drawing to win a brand new copy of the Resident Evil 5 Collector’s Edition for the console of your choice. They only made like a few million of these things, so now is your chance to own an ultra rare piece of video game history! The winner will be notified on Monday via the email associated with their user profile.
So check out the reviews and features while you wait for the last–and most important–Friday the 13th (until 2012), and leave some comment love each day to ensure your chances at winning one of the most anticipated games of the entire month! I mean… of the entire century!!!
Update: Congratulations to Amanda P. from San Diego.

The 2008 Final Fantasy XI Fan Festival, held by the game’s maker Square Enix, was held Friday and Saturday, December 5 and 6, at the Hollywood Renaissance Hotel on Highland Avenue. About 500 die hard FFXI gamers descended onto the hotel, myself and my husband included. This was our second year to go to the FanFest and I have to say, what I experience at the FanFest is why I keep playing FFXI. Read the full story
