Georges Jeanty Rules the Buffyverse
Can you imagine what it’s like being responsible for bringing characters fans have come to know and love over 7 seasons of TV to the comic page? That’s the duty Buffy artist Georges Jeanty shouldered when Joss Whedon handpicked him for the gig. Fazed? Hardly. Jeanty was too busy enjoying his comics, sci-fi and horror to notice the pressure.
Harry Potter has always intrigued me, though I have never had the self-discipline to sit down and read through all of the novels. I’ve opted to see the movies instead, even when they bored me to tears. It’s fascinating to think that they have gotten progressively better over the years, and the video game tie-ins have certainly followed suit. Harry Potter and the Half-Blood Prince is an entertaining (albeit very predictable) journey into Potter’s world, but it got me to sit down and pay attention a lot longer than the books did. When you stay up late into the night feverishly reading a book you just can’t put down (even if it weighs a ton) and seriously consider flipping back to page one when you’ve finished, I think it’s safe to say you’ve found something special. Special is what Joe Graham’sOmni: History Begins is all about.
Set in the year 2012, History Begins is a magnificent work of superfiction, a genre not often found outside of comic books. This is one story that doesn’t start off with an ordinary boy.Eleven-year-old Joseph Pringle is what’s considered a “near miss” in a world rife with super humans. We’ve all seen the foreign language and short film categories at the Academy Awards. Usually it’s a snooze-fest. When are they going to start recognizing genius creations like this one? Don’t let the subtitles put you off, this is superb.
“This is the story of Arne (Trond Gil), who is convinced he has superpowers. He just hasn’t found them yet. So he decides to put up a wanted note for an archenemy, hoping that it will help him discover his true powers.”
Have a few extra thousand dollars to spend this holiday season? How ’bout spoiling the geek in your life with Luke’s lightsaber from The Empire Strikes Back or Indy’s fedora and whip from The Temple of Doom?
Today in MiL, I have a story that I’m sure will melt everyone’s heart! I interviewed Celine who met her other half Matthew on hexrpg.com, a Harry Potter RPG site, when she was only 15 and he was 17. She was “Mayoke” and he was “Axrix” who were both new students who met on the Hogwarts Express. They first talked shyly about what sorting they may be put into- she got into Gryffindor and he into Slytherin, but soon they’re shyness wore off as two realized that Harry Potter wasn’t the only thing they had in common…
During the 3 day weekend, I didn’t get to be merry by the pool… instead, I got all giddy over a new find; a charming store tucked away on Magnolia Blvd. called Collectible Wizard! Read the full story
British writer J. K. Rowling, author of the famous children’s books series that has permeated practically every aspect of British and American culture today (to name just two), testified on Monday in New York against the pending publication of The Harry Potter Lexicon encyclopedia, calling it “wholesale theft.”
