When I first heard about Batman: Arkham Asylum a year or so ago, I was actually a little worried. I’m a rather huge comic nerd, and Batman has always been one of my top favorites. The world of Batman is rather unique with an inherent darkness not found in many other mainstream comics. On top of that, the game is set in Arkham, a place filled with some of the worst villains ever pondered. Seriously, the Joker beat one of the previous Robins to death. So needless to say, I was rather concerned that the game would not live up to standards set by the comics. However, I have one main point to make about Arkham Asylum: boy, did it ever deliver. For humans, time and reality are linear and constant, but when it comes to mutants and super-powered villains and even heroes, those guys think fiddling around with the space-time continuum and altering the fabric of reality are fun pastimes. Rookies never learn, and villains—well, they just get their kicks from other people’s misery, including our own. I always hated the time-traveling episodes of X-Men: The Animated Series, and I still loathe when comic book characters bust a hole in time and reality with a rusty crowbar. We all know these things never end well, so why do they keep insisting on gambling with fate? Because they’re idiots, that’s why.

The DC website brags that we haven’t seen such a powerful Joker character tale since THE KILLING JOKE—and they weren’t (if you’ll excuse the pun) kidding. So it’s fitting that the name of the graphic novel is simply … JOKER.

The buzz about Gotham is that Johnny Depp may step in as the role of the Riddler for the next Batman movie. Along with Depp, rumor is that a few A listers may also have some upcoming roles. As of now these are just rumors, hopefully we’ll find out soon wether or not they are true. Word is that the Joker will also be replaced.
