Georges Jeanty Rules the Buffyverse

Can you imagine what it’s like being responsible for bringing characters fans have come to know and love over 7 seasons of TV to the comic page? That’s the duty Buffy artist Georges Jeanty shouldered when Joss Whedon handpicked him for the gig. Fazed? Hardly. Jeanty was too busy enjoying his comics, sci-fi and horror to notice the pressure.

Resident Evil 5 Blood Drive

Resident Evil 5 Blood Drive

As part of their massive Resident Evil 5 launch festivities, Capcom held a Blood Drive in a hollowed-out adult entertainment store in Hollywood, California last Friday. After all, who needs flashy venues and sexy booth babes when some old lady named Ping with questionable vision and shaky hands is sticking a needle in your arm?

X360 Review: Resident Evil 5

Imagine this: You’re running through some ancient ruins pulling levers and collecting treasure; must be Tomb Raider, right? You’re ducking in and out of cover while engaging in a firefight with armed militia in a factory complex while your co-op buddy flanks the enemy’s rear; must be Army of Two, right? You’re stuck on the back of a moving Humvee racing through a wide-open savanna mowing down wave after wave of incoming motorcyclists with a mounted machine gun; sounds like Time Crisis, or perhaps Virtua Cop, right? None of these situations are likely to conjure images of a survival horror game, but as the title of this review probably tipped you off, they will now.

So You Want to Be a Zombie Fighter?

So You Want to Be a Zombie Fighter?

Resident Evil costume: Gun? Check. First aid spray? Check. Leon’s wig. Check.

An amazing cosplay subculture exists purely due to the Resident Evil franchise. If you’ve ever tried to decide on a costume from the various games or films you realize what a challenge it can be to pick one. First off, it would be good to know whether you’re a boy or a girl. Unless you want to cosplay Alfred Ashford, in which case it doesn’t really matter. Then you have to choose a specific character. There’s over 25 - not including monsters. Some have only appeared once, while others are landmarks. Next, which outfit? From which game? By the time you add in unlockable alternate costumes you’re head is spinning. Here are some talented cosplayers from around the internet who knew what they wanted and managed to do it with style.

Capcom Take Our Money and Now Our Blood

Capcom Take Our Money and Now Our Blood

I love it when PR decides to get creative so naturally I was pretty impressed by Capcom’s latest PR stunt for the launch of Resident Evil 5.

For the Launch on March 13, Capcom well be hosting a blood drive in association with American Red Cross at the World of Wonder Gallery on Hollywood Blvd, Hollywood, California. While its an odd way to advertise a video game launch I am personally all for it. People who want the game will only go out and buy it anyway, so why not encourage them to do something useful like give blood? Yeah, it’s not exactly p***ing all over the amazing Street Fighter launch but at least this might actually benefit someone in some way.

But with or without Capcom stealing our blood for medical (possible cloning) purposes there will still be the usual launch event festivities with the chance to win one of those limited edition red 360s (remember how I posted that rumor all that time ago kids? Yeah, I’m awesome) and some other Resident Evil swag.

So if you are in the area and if you are going to buy the game on launch or not, why not go do something awesome and give blood while you are at it? I actually work in obstetrics and I gotta say (lets get serious for a moment) it does save lives.

Red or Dead? Resident Evil 5 Rumor

Red or Dead? Resident Evil 5 Rumor

So I was on my daily snoop around the internet when a good friends Tumblr blog linked me to something rather interesting over at Opposable Thumbs.

The lovely guys at Opposable thumbs claim to have had some very interesting information come their way from an apparently reliable mole. The rumor is surrounding a new Resident Evil 5 bundle and this is more than just a ‘collectors tin’, It’s due to be a 360 bundle.

It includes:

  • Red 360 (Hard drive size unknown)
  • Red controller
  • A copy of Resident Evil 5
  • Exclusive Resident Evil 5 NXE theme
  • Download coupon for Super Street Fighter II Turbo HD

All sounds rather yummy if you ask me, though their mole didn’t leave them an estimated price. I guess Capcom are getting rather friendly with Xbox360 after all, but with the way we were selling 360’s a Christmas in GameStation, I will be surprised if Resident Evil 5 is a strong enough title to finally convince those last few who don’t own a 360 to hand over their cash.

Think how amazing that RRoD will look on an all red 360!

Resident Evil 5 Demo on XBL: World Wide!

Resident Evil 5 Demo on XBL: World Wide!

Now if you were a good little boy or girl, chances are you didn’t make a fake Japanese account to download and play the new Resident Evil 5 demo. Well your endurance, even if it does mean that you are behind everyone else, has been rewarded. On 26th JANURAY, the demo will be available to Xbox 360 gamer’s world wide but for only one week!

Still can’t wait that long? A brand new high definition trailer of the game, shown only at the Tokyo Games Show 2008, will be available for download off XBL on the 16th of January.

Since Capcom made as wait oh so patiently they have rewarded us with a first glimpse at some yummy new features, levels, weapons and even new enemies. The demo will be set in two stages from early on in the game; Assembly Place and Shanty Town and is not only single player, with supporting AI, but can be played through using Co-op (If you don’t have any friends, I suggest you go out and make one, preferably with a 360).

The new demo lets you rip apart the infected Majini and you even get to have first pot shot at the new weapon-wielding Majini, the hooded Majini executioner and the chainsaw happy Majini. Players, depending on their personal preference when it comes to placing a bullet in heads of numerous infected also have a of choice of how to do it, either by using the ‘Old-skool’ Resident Evil controls or switching to the new ‘Action’ style controls, inspired by games such as Gear of War and Halo 3. Check out the thumb nails below for some pretty sweet Resident Evil 5 images and screen shots.

See, I wrote this whole article without bringing up the race issue even once…oh wait…

RE5 Producer Says No To Useless Censorship

Resident Evil 5’s producer, Jun Takeuchi, has said that even though many complained of racism in the recent RE trailer, the new Resident Evil title will not be dumbed-down for more politically correctness. And the angels rejoice.
