The Girls Entertainment Network is proud to announce the adoption of our first official boy band! That’s right boys and girls, geek culture has now sprouted from it’s loins a boy band just for us!

LeetStreet Boys, a fantasy anime band (not from Japan), is tweaking everyone’s funny bone in a way songs parodying anime and gaming culture have seldom done before. Their most recent hit, “Yuri the Only One,” squeezes out anime/gamer plays on words like “Ed I Lust for your alchemy,” priceless like a PS3″ and “Sephy’s mom has got it goin’ on,” with the breathless velocity of the current Grand Theft Auto sales curve.
Conceived by songwriter/fanboy Matt Myers and former high-school bandmate, Ryan McCormack, the mythic LeetStreet Boys is based on the personalities of four musical misfits who meet at a malevolent upper-crust school and “band” together to divert themselves from individual lonliness and frustration by creating a whole new “otaku” (gamer geek) sound.
Yuri the Only One, the band’s first single, is the chronicle (as told by singer, Matt, and his pop-toon cronies, drummer D-Dos, bassist Kei, and guitarist, Justin), of a shy otaku wending his way through a maze of game-inspired misadventures to not only find his own true love, but himself in the process. Drawn by Nate “N8″ Soria and debuted at Boston Anime 2008, the video plays on a treasure trove of references that every gamer and anime aficianado knows by heart, and mainstream audiences are starting to want to learn in a very big way. Even the band name is game-derived; the gamer slang word “leet” means “elite” and is the genesis of the “LeetStreet” (wink) take on the Backstreet Boys brand
Most recently, Matt and his LeetStreet Boys creation have attracted the attention of Video Games Live, internationally renowned immersive concert event producer featuring music from the world’s most popular video games. Yuri The Only One will be available as a downloadable song from the upcoming Video Games Live soundtrack album (to be published by EMI), while the “Yuri” video will be screened worldwide and an East Coast touring schedule for a “live” version of the band is being scheduled.
Matt: “There is a cultural renaissance taking place in gaming; it’s not just for gamers, anymore. So, I am extremely pleased to have the opportunity to share that experience now with everyone.”
GEN is proud to call LSB an official part of our family!
