The Show, let Sony show it to you

Do you enjoy watching grown men spit chew and slap each other on the ass? You might be a redneck! You might also be a baseball fan, and in either case Sony has you covered.

SCEA is preparing MLB 09 The Show for release this Spring on all three PlayStation consoles (PS2, PSP, and PS3). Aside from purely heterosexual HD ass-slapping and ball-handling, Sony is promising Dustin Pedroia as the new coverboy and a slew of improved features over previous entries which I’ve conveniently copy and pasted for you below because who loves you? That’s right, I do.

Road to the Show 3.0
Now includes interactive training, new settings, a new steal/ lead-off system, presentations and coach interactions. Interactive training will consist of a set of mini-games designed to improve a player’s ability and performance in various areas of baseball.

Franchise Mode 2.0
Improvements include the long awaited 40-man roster! The latest Franchise Mode improvements will also offer Salary Arbitration, Waiver Transactions and September call-ups.

Online Season Leagues
Along with improvements to the traditional Online Leagues, MLB 09 will offer major additions to Online Season Leagues! New Online Season Leagues will allow you to hold a fully functional draft and utilize a Flex Schedule, allowing players to play games ahead in the schedule.

Training/Practice Drills
In MLB 09 users will have the ability to choose from a number of different Training/Practice drills. The drills will be of various concentrations of the game. These drills are a perfect way to polish and improve your baseball skills in The Show!

Details & Subtleties
Details and subtleties play a huge role in legitimizing a game and helping you lose yourself in the suspension of disbelief. MLB 09 The Show sinks it’s teeth into the details with realistic stadiums and signage, wear and tear on field, dusk to night lighting transitions, stadium Jumbotron animations and even crowd atmosphere – reaching up for foul balls out of play and home runs in addition to crowd rivalries and weather appropriate clothing.

Custom Music, Fan Yells and Chants
Using our My MLB Music feature, store all of your favorite music for play on MLB 09 The Show. Once you have your music on your PS3 hard drive, edit any of your tracks and assign a batter walk-up to all of your favorite players. Along with Custom Music, MLB 09 will also offer Custom Fan Yells and Chants. Record a yell, with your own voice, and assign it to play for the player and situation of your choice.

If you’re half as excited about recording hardcore J-pop as the Red Sox’s theme music then hop on over to the official site or download the demo on PSN and play it for yourself!

Baseball is a meh for me. Even as a game, I don’t enjoy it much. Looks like the graphics are going to be nice though.

Even with my severe lack of hand-eye coordination, and inability to play real baseball/softball (sadly, even on the Wii), I always seem to thoroughly enjoy baseball video games. I played MLB 08 and thought it was neat in career mode you start in the minors and work your way up - which was something I had not seen before.

Slugfest was a staple of my PS1/PS2 days and I’ll be damned if I stop enjoying baseball games. Baseball, tennis, volleyball, skating, all that jazz - those are my FAVORITE sports game. Plus the custom soundtrack seems ike an interesting addition.

  4. WITA WITA Says:

Wow, I can’t believe I just thought, “Why are they still releasing games on the PS2?” A few months ago I would have thought, “More games on the PS2, please! I don’t have my PS3 yet!” :P

I bought 08 last year and thought that the road to the show mode was really fun and challenging. I’m definitely buying this game, hopefully they offer the free new era cap again this year.

The last sports video game I enjoyed was Nintendo’s Ice Hockey.

Baseball isn’t fun to watch unless you’re at a baseball game, and isn’t fun to play unless you’re doing it IRL. =)

I am all for ass-slapping, but baseball is not interesting enough to carry me though to the good stuff. But, for baseball fans, the game doesn’t sound that bad. Can’t be worse than MLB Front Office Manager…

I’ve never played a Baseball game, so I need some help here. Are the analog sticks used to swing the bat, or are we still getting by with pressing certain buttons at certain times to execute certain shots?
