Hollywood is populated with films upon films of zombie lore, but very few have actually gotten it right. One of the most critically acclaimed graphic novels to date, (and a story that ‘got it right’) Robert Kirkman’s The Walking Dead, will be brought to life on your television set. Prepare for the addiction.
In case you’re not familiar, The Walking Dead is an engrossing zombie story centered around some of the few last remaining survivors and their quests to escape the rotting hordes and find a secure home. Rick Grimes, a now ex-police officer and beloved father, walked into the role as leader and stands as the group’s continuous backbone and hope for sanity. How sane anyone can stay in a world overrun by the dead and the crazy is an issue in itself. Faced with the unrelenting zombies, the last survivors must adapt to a new world and fight against a more dangerous threat than the walking dead: themselves.
The graphic novels work extremely well on delivering a zombie story that spans over a long period of time. Still continuing to this day, the world of The Walking Dead is jam-packed with riveting character development, dynamic plot devices, and intricately detailed subplots, down to the last half-eaten cat.
Kirkman’s spin on the zombie genre is not entirely unique in substance; however, his story-telling and focus on the little details propels him into the big leagues. We’re talking Romero here. It’s not all decapitating heads and cannibalistic glory; no, like Romero, Kirkman’s tales weave themes deemed controversial by the vast majority and fixate on the emotional deterioration of those left alive.
In short, The Walking Dead will most likely prove to be an immensely epic graphic novel adaptation and rock your socks off. AMC network has acquired the rights and Frank Darabont (Shawshank Redemption) is on board to write, direct, and executive produce it. Stand up and moan if you’re excited.

I guess I have to cough up the cash and catch up with this series now, right? Can’t watch it if I haven’t read the comics.
Is this going to be a TV movie or series? I think a TV series sounds better.

I am just glad to see hollywood going after zombies again. I am getting really tired of vampires. Plus, the walking dead is really good.

There are only two films I’ve ever walked out of in my life. One was a Frank Darabont picture called “The Majestic.” But he does have some great work - “Shawshank” obvs… and I look forward to this!

Was The Majestic with Jim Carrey? Is he even still alive? Maybe he can play one of the zombies.
