Video Review: Top Cow’s Impaler

Check out my first attempt at video-blogging as I take on both Top Cow’s Impaler Trade and brand-new issue #1. Bottom line? If you love blood, guts, good stories and grisly art, Impaler is for you.

So here it is, my first ever attempt at video-blogging. Even scarier, my first real attempt at video editing. The whole process turned out to be a bit of a nightmare, so you must forgive the jumpy audio and other annoying nuances at times. I promise it can only get better from here. The whole experience taught me quite a few things, including to be a bit more concise (talk less), speak slower and use spell check. There is also this goofy reversal of directions when you are looking at yourself on camera. Go figure.

So venture forth to get my impressions of Top Cow’s vampire thriller Impaler, complete with sporadic appearances by my cat Tex.

Also, I am wearing a shirt modeled after The Hulk’s chest. You know you are jealous.

Great job, Meg! Impaler sounds awesome, I’m definitely going to have to pick the trade up. (Impressive about no half-naked girls!)

And yes, I AM jealous of your shirt!

I too am jealous of your chest.

Excellent job Meagan, you sure this was your first time?

I laughed, I cried, and I was confused by your choice of opening song placed over images of gruesome atrocities.

I give it an 11 out of 5.

No problem William! We appreciate you stopping in! I just picked up my Impaler #1 (variant copy that I didn’t already have) from the comic store today!

Also…you are doing the writing for Imfamous?!?!? I saw it at E3 and am super excited about it. We featured it as a cover on our magazine this past year (Game Informer). I would love to interview you about it some time!

  8. William Harms William Harms Says:

Yep, I’m doing all of the writing for inFamous. Do you know our PR guy Ken? He’d probably be the person to contact (or Sony PR) to set it up.

I used to read the original vampire legends and I can tell you that the “glitter in the sun” (Hollywood) version of vampire is not anything like the real ones. This comic and 30 Days of Night are much closer to the orginial vampires, meaning more animalistic and not anything anyone would actually want to become. I believe it was Bram Stoker’s ‘Dracula’ that started the modern day vampire look, but it may have been earlier than that.

You know what is funny? So many people are now starting to refer to the Twilight series as “Hollywood” when in fact, it’s really just the opposite. Twilight was just this indie book that a girl wrote based on a dream of hers. All of a sudden, 3 years after the first book was released, it ended up making it big. The movie was also an indie movie that HAPPEND to come out the same year that Twilight hit big. It was a lot of coincidences that made Twilight what it is today. That said, it’s far from some “made for Hollywood, glitter and glitzy” retelling of Dracula. It’s from a young woman’s dream. That’s like saying Harry Potter is not REALLY a true wizard because he has a scar and that’s a stupid retelling of it. :) Sorry, I have to defend my Twilight! Edward would want me to.

I have never seen the Twilight series, I have read the original vampire legends. Very few of today’s vampire portrayals are true to the legends.
