In a summer devoted to comic book geeks, Mark Millar’s Wanted stood out as one of the only films created with an adult audience in mind. The extremely violent adaptation of the equally violent graphic novel did well for itself, especially considering it was up against bankable names such as Iron Man, Batman and the Hulk.
Evidently it did well enough to warrant a sequel, which screenwriter Chris Morgan talked about with MTV’s Splash Page. In the brief interview Morgan confirmed that Universal Pictures is in the final stages of negotiating a deal with Millar for another look into the bizarre world that Wesley Gibson inhabits. Morgan also confirmed that he will be returning as screenwriter.
Concerns this time around arise from the fact that there is no pre-scripted material for Morgan to draw from. However, considering that he will be working closely with Millar to craft a worthy story, most of those fears can be put to rest. If anything, not having a graphic novel to base the film around could be liberating, and will suppress upset over diverges in the story such as with the first movie. The only other setback I could think of is that nearly every main character from the first film died. Whoops…spoiler.
Morgan gave no hints that Millar plans to craft a new graphic novel once the story is finished, which is fine by me. Despite loving the movie, I want to remember the Wanted trades as they were - sexually explicit, profane and violent to the core.

I haven’t seen the movie but I definitely want to! I’m kind of disappointed with myself that I haven’t seen it yet. I really want to get it on dvd, though—and maybe review it?

LOL…not much of a spoiler to those who saw the movie or read the TPs, but there are those who haven’t seen. I wonder who would star in it and what would they fight over this time?

Still ain’t seen it eh, Steph. Anyway, I thought the movie was ok. I would see a sequel if it did make it out, but I would not put much stock into it. The movie just kind of left me feeling empty. I really wanted to see more of the GN in it… but like I said, I thought it was ok.
