Just who will Team USA be competing against this year at the World Cosplay Summit? There are more international teams for 2009 than there ever has been and that means more awesome competition. Here’s a brief profile of three of the teams who will also be making the ultimate cosplay trip to Japan.
Mexico
Team Mexico’s Abigal Mascherpa Garcia and Sabina Iglesias Arvide will bring enthusiasm and energy to WCS this year.
Abigal, an occasional writer for Otaku Magazine, loves Blech, Naruto and Sayonara Zetsubou-Sensei and called Japan her “second nation.” She’s been cosplaying for what she describes as “a long time.”
Her partner Sabina has been cosplaying for two years, but also enjoys drawing and all things sugar-based. Her favorite animes include Chobits and FLCL.
Thailand
Thailand’s Pennapa Thanornpradit and Rujipas Distaprom boast an impressive 10 and 9 years cosplay experience, respectively, something that could be huge advantage to them in the competition.
They enjoy Code GHeass, Hitman Reborn, Trinity Blood and Berserk, among other animes.
Finland
Males are decided outnumbered in WCS, but one of the few male competitors is Finland’s Arttu Seppi. He likes the show Black Lagoon and admits he’s just starting out in cosplay but loves the hobby.
His partner, Iris Ronkko, has five years of experience under her belt and likes Bakuretu Tenshi, among other animes.
When not busy sewing, she also enjoys reading.
Denmark
With five years of experience under their respective belts, Ida Kirkegaard and Sigge Tine Ludvigsen will come prepared to WCS this year.
They like shows like Sailor Moon, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Bleach and Inu Yasha.
Ida says she’s excited to meet the other cosplayers in the competition, while Sigge is hoping to “submerge myself in the world of cosplay.”
