The Mortal Kombat series and Detective Comics (DC) are teaming up to produce one amazing-looking Midway game: Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe.
Ed Boon, the creator of Mortal Kombat, recently premiered a trailer for the upcoming fighting game (which looks friggin’ brilliant, by the way). Along with Boon and the game’s designers, writers Jimmy Palmiotti (Painkiller Jane, Marvel Knights) and Justin Gray (Batman: Legends of the Dark Knight) are joining forces to authentically merge the DC and Mortal Kombat mythologies.
Two new modes, “Klose Kombat” and “Freefall Kombat,” will be introduced in the game.
“We have characters throwing each other off buildings, through buildings, and fighting [while] falling from one arena to the next,” said Boon. “In addition, our new ‘Klose Kombat’ is a brutal, up-close fighting mechanic with damage, torn clothing, and bruising.”
Only four of the game’s characters have been announced so far—Sub-Zero, Scorpion, Superman, and Batman (hell yeah)—but more are planned to be revealed at E3 in July. The game itself is scheduled for release this fall on the 360 and PS3 systems.
Just check out the trailer. The graphics and environment, as well as the fluidity and complexity of the fighting, are simply jaw-dropping. This ought to be fun …

Marvel vs Capcom anyone?

Yeah, I wish they would continue that Marvel v. Capcom series. But this looks interesting. I am not as big into DC as I am Marvel, but I am an MK fan, so it should be interesting … I hope.

Too bad the roster’s going to be too small- so many DC B-listers I’d love to see in a fighting game, even if it’s my least favorite one.
I really would love to see Misfit in the game for example- she’s grown on me lately.

I know what you mean. I would like to see Like Mary Marvel or the new Blue Beetle, but I know they won’t make the cut for the game.

See, I dunno. Without fatalities or a little more personality, this is just gonna be another generic fighter, methinks.
Hope I’m wrong tho.

I don’t think you are though, DCD. No fatalities and the tuning down of the DC fighters (which I understand, but still) don’t make it seem like it will stand out all that much.

They should dump the MK chars entirely if there’s no fatalities, but then that would require Midway to make a game that isn’t god-awful.

Heh, I’d like to see Marvel vs. DC. ;D

WITA, that would be an awesome game that will never take place anytime soon. I would so love to see that, but the companies involved will never be able to work it out.

Sigh, I know. But a girl can dream, can’t she?
April 26th, 2008 at 8:28 pm
I know. Just like I dream that one day they will import all those anime series vs series fighting games in Japan over here.

You guys should get M.U.G.E.N. If you want the ultimate Vs. fighting game.
It has whoever you want in it. Really. Whoever.
Wanna see how Spidey would fair against Homer Simpson? Or War Machine against Fat Albert? Or more traditional characters like Goku versus Megaman? This game allows for all of it.
As far as MKvDC, I’ll wait and see. I am intrigued though.
