“Build a Band, Rock the Universe”…WHAT YOU’LL LIKE:
LEGOs, Who Doesn’t Love Them?
The appeal of the LEGO games are, of course, the fact that its LEGO. They remind us of our favorite childhood toy, and introduce our children to them as well. Everything in the game is LEGO’d out - from the instruments (the guitars actually resemeble the guitar controllers) to the set you play on. Even the notes on the screen resemble Lego bricks. Avatars are pre-dressed LEGO figures, and there are many other fun unlockables, including music sensations Freddie Mercury and David Bowie, which the big kids can appreciate.
Family Friendly
The gameplay is overall a bit easier than the regular Rock Band series, and in addition, you can disable the foot pedal on the drums, which is probably the hardest instrument to play. It also includes a “Super Easy” mode for those less coordinated and experienced. The game includes a G-rated setlist with favorites such as “Kung Fu Fighting” and “We Will Rock You”. The setlist is also importable to the regular Rock Band games.
Special Gigs
Much like the Rock Challenges in Rock Band, Special Gigs change the pace of gameplay during the Story Mode. But unlike the rock challenges, Special Gigs call for special tasks - such as demolishing a building or defeating an octopus with your epic rocking out. The quirkiness of the tour overall is pretty cute and definitely fun for the kiddies.
WHAT YOU WON’T LIKE:
No Online Co-op?!
A huge downer for Live users, and probably the biggest disappointment for the game. While I understand that this is geared more toward a family game, this was a deal breaker for me, who plays with her friends via Xbox Live rather than with the kiddies (because I don’t have any).
Lack of Customization
Unlike Rock Band, where you can add details to your rockers down to their toes and tattoos, LEGO avatars are limited to pre-designed pieces that you can match together, only having the option to change some colors. Although, this could be a good thing, since it means less time creating avatars when you’re eager to get rockin’.
RECOMMENDATION:
If there are children in your family who always want to join in on your Rock Band session and you all play together on No Fail mode, LEGO Rock Band will be a perfect addition to your game library. It’s also good for you big kids who say they’d rock the drums if they could only turn off that darned foot pedal. As for the family-less gamer, if you’ve already killed Rock Band 1 and 2, you might want to skip the LEGO version, unless you happen to be a member of the LEGO Fan Club. I would suggest to at least rent it to see the different atmosphere LEGO Rock Band has. Otherwise, pick this one up for the kiddies, or even mom and dad, for the holdiay season.

I don’t mean to be a jerk, but LEGO is the name of the company and the plural version is LEGO Blocks. I mean even LEGO wants to make the distinction.

Do Asians throw hamburgers at their weddings since American’s throw rice at theirs?

Mr. George Bush, you make a point, I thought I had that cleared but it appears I don’t. I’ll make the necessary adjustments, thank you.

I have always been a fan of Rockband but I feel like it’s a little over kill, honestly. We don’t need a Rockband for everything under the sun! Just some nice DLC would be great.
