
Yeah yeah…there is no arguing that in one capacity or another we are all geeks here at GEN. That isn’t surprising. Having a geek side is not uncommon these days – even celebrities seem to be embracing their inner-fandom.
Here at GEN, we come in all flavors of geek. Some of us live for video games, others dish out dough every week for comics, and still others can’t get enough anime and manga. Don’t even get us started on toys…or cosplay. All of us express our inner-geek in an outward way. Still, no matter now “normal” we may seem because of the company we keep, every once in a while something happens that grounds us and reminds us of our roots. Have you ever seen road kill on the side of the road and wondered where the piñata candy was? Do you consider birthdays IRL Dings? Did you collect and print all the trading cards from Final Fantasy VIII just so you could play in real life with friends? The girls here have…and more.
So why are the GEN girls geeks? Read on to find out. Keep in mind, all of these examples are real…even the ones we wish weren’t.
- She Apple Z’s mistakes on a phantom keyboard when drawing with a pen and paper
- She passed a dead raccoon on the side of the road and wondered where the piñata candy was
- She air-strums to Guitar Hero songs on the radio
- She hears Final Fantasy songs in elevator music
- She met her husband at band camp
- She works out to tracks from Katamari Damacy, Space Channel Five, Cowboy Bebop and seminars from the Game Developers Conference
- She had a dream that her cat was the creative director for Assassins Creed
- She tries to rewind time in all games after playing Braid
- She identified a Thistle plant at her cabin after seeing one in Viva Pinata.
- She now uses the term “Romance Dancing” regularly
- The only songs she recognized at The Who concert were those from the C.S.I intros
- She made her grandma a Myspace profile to help her keep up with the grandkids
- She used to have dreams that she was “007: Jane Bond”
- She Wikipedia’ed Spore and was confused when the result did not bring up the Maxis game
- Looking at urban rooftops automatically puts her mind in “Mirror’s Edge mode”
- She sees emoticons in license plates
- She made up a song to the tune of Hey Jude: “Hey Noob, don’t play so bad, when your using…my gaaaaammmmmmmmerr taaaag!”

- She stereotypes people in public into Wow characters
- She is her guild’s “Cougar” at age 26

- She sings the Mario theme in the shower EVERY time
- She sings the Imperial Death March when bad things happen in real life
- She has a constant mental narration running in her head
- She alphabetizes her cosplay costumes
- Her cat is named Widget
- Each of her cats has a theme song
- She window shops at Best Buy
- She starts conversations with gaming/anime greetings
- She organizes class notes as soon as she is finished
- She believes aliens exist
- She created an email account for her computer illiterate mom
- She is addicted to in-game minigames
- She swears things lag IRL after Halo all-nighters
- She plays games in her dreams

- She has a special soundtrack for playing Uno.

- She refuses to be friends with Alliance members
- She listened to the Final Fantasy 7 soundtrack while setting up her baby nursery
- She believes John Williams is cooler than any artist on the top 40
- She says “Fungah! Foiled again!” when bested in something not game related
- She now associates “Welcome to the Jungle” with GTA and “Mad World” with Gears of War
- She has a playlist for killing in Halo, and another for playing Uno on XBLA
- She dings and levels up on her birthday

- When fixing her computer, her Tinkering tradeskill goes up
- When she does not want to chat, she yells “Fear or Feign Death/ Flee”
- She hums the tetris song when stacking and organizing
- She swears the LEDCORP construction site near her house reads LEXCORP
- Her iTunes library consists of music from Guitar Hero, Rock Band and Burnout
- She has Final Fantasy and Mario Bros ring tones
- She tries to find game acronyms in license plates
- Her computer is named the Silver Surfer
- She designed and printed all the trading cards from Final Fantasy VIII in order to play with friends
- When she draws, she tries to Control + Z instead of erasing
- She named her cat Koopa from Mario Bros. and named her brother’s lizard Oromis from Eragon
- She will be slightly disappointed if their never is a real zombie infestation
- When shopping, she is always looking for good cosplay items
- She plans on naming her future son Anakin
- Her resume looks like a comic book cover
- She constantly talks in lolcatz speak
- She regularly quotes dialogue from geek stuff in conversations, i.e “sorry” like Steve says it in Resident Evil: “I’m sow-rry, Clare!”
- She thinks guys clad in green – such as Link – are cute
- She wants to go to Chicago so she can see “Gotham”
- She wants to see a real life bandicoot and name him Crash
- She hears a song from Guitar Hero on the radio and imagines herself playing the song in the game
- She gets freaked out whenever it’s foggy and she hears a fire siren
- She took a Sci-Fi class just to read Watchmen – again
- When you say “nerdy names” she thinks of Clark
- She finds anything with “Bat-“ tacked onto it funny
- She once heard a song play that reminded her of the Star Tropics theme
- When she was younger she actually tried to transcribe Star Wars Episode IV – by hand
- She buys movies just for the special features
- She “collects” songs about Superman (for reasons unknown)
- She plans her life around gadget/gaming/comic book conventions
- She is buying a second 360 because gaming in a two gamer household is too difficult
- She owns all the complete figure collection of Final Fantasy X figures.
- She has Star Wars artwork on her walls
- She would rather spend money on gadgets and games than expensive purses/shoes
- She had a geek wedding IRL
- She was mad at her husband because he didn’t want to have an “in-game” reception
- She bought a PS3 on her wedding night via Wal-Mart in her full wedding attire
- She had only game music at her wedding
- She cut her wedding cake with an 18″ Dragon dagger instead of a traditional cake cutter
- She squeals over action figures, like “other” ladies do over shoes
- She air guitar’s to Dragonforce music
- She can’t answer the question “Which one is better? Marvel or DC?”
- She becomes embarrassed when she admits she plays alliance
- She asks people in Blizzard t-shirts what server they play on
- She used to design MySpace layouts for her friends and family
- She says “Slash-cry” or whatever her emotion is at the time (/cry)
- She always says “NEEDS FOOD BADLY!” whenever she’s hungry
- Her apartment consists of “Theme” rooms: Medievil and comic
- When she expresses her opinion of something and ends it with “imo”
- She dreams about becoming a character in an actual video game
- She has an immense cache of movie quotes that she uses on a daily basis within conversations. Most of the time, no one knows that it was a quote.
- Immediately after seeing a movie, she checks IMDB.com for trivia and quotes from said movie.
- She makes a lot of Halo references and subconsciously painted her room green, causing it to be referred to as the Halo or mo-cap room.
- She refers to her Jeep as the Warthog and so does everyone else.
- Her ringtone is the Back To The Future theme and her text message ringtone is the sound of a Transformer transforming.
- She falls asleep every night while reading the latest CNN news through her cell phone.
- Her music collections consists mostly of movie soundtracks.
- She can quote “Nacho Libre” and implement it into relevant conversations seamlessly.
- She makes too many GTA references when giving tours to visiting guests.
- She had George Costanza’s voicemail message as her own until realizing people didn’t know if they were calling the right number anymore.
- She wrote about the “Information Superhighway” for an elementary school project
- She is impressed by large flatscreens and properly set up home theater systems
- She now loves the Yeah Yeah Yeahs thanks to RockBand.
- She takes men’s geek shirts and cuts them up to girly proportions.
- She carries her DS (currently with Guitar Hero) around in her purse. It’s a STAPLE!
- She still has yet to finish a few RPGs, but has played FF8 multiple times and would do it again!
- She is a Sega girl at heart, and still owns a Sega Saturn and a Sega Dreamcast.
- She comes from a family of geeks and gamers
- She enjoys Miyazaki films with her mom
- She keeps old shoes and clothing pieces, thinking she may use them for a future cosplay
- She has too many artbooks
- She owns a 5 foot cardboard cutout of Ulala from Space Channel 5 in her room
- She used to write tons of fanfiction and draw fanart
- She peacesigns in every photo
- She still loves DDR
- She was totally stoked when Fred Perry recognized her Lum cosplay
- She uses OMGWTFBBQ in RL speech
- She is has internet friends that she’s known since she was ON the internet…. at 12
- She introduces herself at cons as “Scarlett Dawn from the internet”
- She created a spreadsheet for AC:WW, for each item she collected and when is the peak time/season to collect the ones she doesn’t have
- Her dog’s name is Sir Times New Roman
- She has a tattoo written in Biblo Baggin’s handwritting
- When she first saw the IRELAND bumper sticker she thought it stood for “In Real Life”
- She owns every Gameboy even made, including the GameBoy Light which was only release in 1998, just before the release of the Gameboy Color
- She squealed while registering for the class “Tolkien: Master of Fiction”
- In 3D design class when she was asked to make a “contemporary, themed vase” she instead sculpted a shai hulud
- She wishes HBO would make a series based on Fables
- Went to the midnight release of 4 of the 7 harry potter books
- She has a pillow with “55378008″ written out in iron on letters.
- She doesn’t understand how people can wear shirts with out gaming related designs on them
- She becomes extremely insulted when GameStop employees ask “Are you picking something up for your boyfriend?” She then proceeds to demonstrate that she may very well in fact be more well read on the subject than said employees
- Her kids skip the toy section of Toys R Us and run right to the gaming section
- She’s watched the Dark Knight at least twice a day since it came out on DVD
- Unlocking new achievements is more important than insuring her family eats a healthy dinner.
- Her gamerscore is higher than her husbands
- While meeting up with old friends from high school her husband whispers “She’s become a geek” to explain why his wife is raving about the Watchmen and the Dark Knight.
- A second gaming console is required in the house because she just WON’T keep her hands off of his.
- She has the tattoo from The Fifth Element and can speak in the “Divine Language.”
- She finds people at bars who look like characters from comics.
- She named her cat Sydney after Jennifer Garner’s character on Alias.
- She went to the LOTR Trilogy Day in theaters.
- She dressed in her Supergirl pajamas for Halloween in Kindergarten.
- She finds Tim Curry’s character in Legend irresistibly attractive.
- She stayed up all night to wait on line at 3 AM for the Harry Potter Cover to Cover Day.
- She patiently copied passwords for her brother in Metroid until she was old enough to play.
- She was called Willow in high school by her friend whom she called Buffy.
- She sleeps with a sword next to her bed because of Duncan MacLeod.
- She owns the key from Return to Oz and Tik-Tok’s wind up instructions.
- Her immediate reaction to “All I have to do is squeeze” would be “All I have to do is scream.”
- She has a Tardis, a 20 sided die, a Mario, an R2D2 and Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman as her desktop icons.
- She’s waiting for the day when she wakes up and has special abilities.
- She hopes one birthday she’ll have a cellular peptide cake with mint frosting in the shape of Counselor Troi.
- She used to practice Xena’s battle cry.
- She wanted to be just like Scully when she grew up.
- She named her camera’s memory card Mogo.
- She would dress up in costume every day if it was socially acceptable.
- She hopes her stuffed tribble will reproduce overnight.
- She would marry Kevin Conroy just for his voice.
- She’s still waiting for her Hoverboard.

I love all of them and some im just laughing about cause my wife does it.
We had a geek court wedding, she dressed up in a Wonder Woman T-Shirt and I dressed up in a Superman T-shirt. Our friends came with a Superman T also.
Another thing is she named our dogs Tinkerbell and Krypto.
Now she plans on naming my future daughter Willow.

…So…much hotness…brain melting. Its like I found nirvana on the web. Hoards of gorgeous nerdy girls. I knew the laws of probability dictated you existed but it is nice to finally find you. I may have to kidnap Nerdy Bird, smart hot and totally connects to that whole Willow fetish thing I have. I came to check out the cosplay pics but I think I will have to stay a while.
