On March 6 of next year, DC’s Watchmen—directed by the guy who did Dawn of the Dead and 300—will hit theaters. Those of you who will be seeing The Dark Knight (or who have already seen it—me included, ha!) can expect to see the new teaser on the big screen. But if you don’t want to wait, or you just want to watch it again, you can check it and some info out after the jump.
(Watch it bigger and in higher quality here.)
A complex, multi-layered mystery adventure, Watchmen is set in an alternate 1985 America in which costumed superheroes are part of the fabric of everyday society, and the “Doomsday Clock” - which charts the USA’s tension with the Soviet Union - is permanently set at five minutes to midnight. When one of his former colleagues is murdered, the washed-up but no less determined masked vigilante Rorschach sets out to uncover a plot to kill and discredit all past and present superheroes. As he reconnects with his former crime-fighting legion - a ragtag group of retired superheroes, only one of whom has true powers - Rorschach glimpses a wide-ranging and disturbing conspiracy with links to their shared past and catastrophic consequences for the future. Their mission is to watch over humanity…but who is watching the watchmen?

Watchmen was originally a twelve-part comic written by Alan Moore with art by Dave Gibbons. The movie version stars Patrick Wilson, Jackie Earle Haley, Matthew Goode, Billy Crudup, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan.
By the way, right now you can download a “motion comic” of the first chapter of Watchmen for free on iTunes. Subsequent chapters will be released every few weeks—but for the price of a few bucks, I believe. Go to it!

Opinion: Do you guys think the excitement for this flick will be as high as it was for TDK?
Update: By the way, definitely check this out, guys. Ropes of Silicon has a teaser-to-panel comparison, like this one below. I spotted at least one other: when Ozymandias is stopping the guy who’s trying to assassinate him. Remember that from the comic?

As noted in the post, Empire has a gorgeous and bigger version of the trailer online.
Btw, Jdub: I went to see TDK in a regular theater, and I saw it. That’s kind of weird. Hm. Well, not weird per say. Maybe it depends on the theater/location—and I think maybe it depends on when you go, really. I know it took me several movies and dozens of previews before I FINALLY saw a trailer for TDK on the big screen.

I so want to see this movie… but I hope it is done right. This is one of my favorite stories ever. And I usually don’t have high expectations going into a movie, but with this one, I can’t seem to shake that if it doesn’t live up to novel that I will not like it.

Hopefully it’ll be good. It’s such a great book … I hope it’s done right. But I know what you mean there. The greater the source, the higher the stakes …

Well hopefully it’ll fare better than LXG and V For Vendetta. They were okay Alan Moore adaptations but hardly amazing. This looks otherwise.

<< Probably the only comic fan that grew up in the 80s that missed the Watchmen.
Looking forward to this movie though.
